St.Croix Legend Xtreme
Anyone using these rods. Can't find a lot of info. on them but with the cost of these being what it is I guess that's understandable.
In the spirit of "you get what you pay for" I've been looking for an ultra sensitive high-end jig rod and was wondering if these are on par or better than NRX rods in that department.
I have a NRX853 and would like to add either a 873crr or the Legend Xtreme 7'1" MH for 3/8oz jigs. My 853 would then become my dedicated t-rig rod.
I know the TT way is to just get both but..........

I think you're better off going with the NRX+. I haven't handled the Xtremes, but from what I've read they are pretty heavy comparatively and the sensitivity is not going to be on par with an NRX.

St. Croix makes a very nice rod in many price ranges but they have never made a rod that I would take over an nrx. If they changed the handle config on the elite.... that was the closest one I have fished to that caliber.

I have an LE 7' MH. It's a great rod but not in the same league as NRX for weight and sensitivity. I suspect this is due to the heavy 2 coat finish applied to it. It is quite durable however.

i have a 7'3" mlxf legend xtreme, i like it a lot. it was a kind of sort of replacement for my broken flyssa (my fault!) very sensitive, not the lightest rod ever but it balances great with a c3000m shimano excense, and its not exactly heavy either. i find myself using it more than the 7'6" steez mml and p5 windbuster that i have.

I prefer my 7’1 MHXF over my NRX+ 893 for 1/4 and 5/16oz presentations to the point I sold the 893. The sensitivity I get from my Legend Elites/X are close to NRX and half the price. The Xtreme is just as sensitive as my NRX+ 873 CRR.
I’m my opinion which is my personal thoughts the NRX line wasn’t worth the money even with 20% off. I own or owned the 843mbr, 903, 873c and 853s for comparison. I’ve kept the 853 and 873.
Personally I’d try both brands and see what you think.

This is definitely a factor. The ringless recoil guides are a sensitivity boost as well. Guide rings are like condoms; a superior material can make a difference in feel, but nothing beats not having one at allflipper502 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 11:51 amI suspect this is due to the heavy 2 coat finish applied to it.
