Looking for recommendations for a swimbaits rod for 6-9 inch soft baits

Post by freelancer27 » Mon Nov 07, 2022 9:29 pm

Hi all,

Looking for a shorter (max 7'5'') swimbaits rod to throw 6-9 inch soft baits ( main bait will be a 8 inch hudd).

No specific budget. Open for any type of suggestion. Would like a decent warranty though, and prefer well balanced rods.

Thanks all!

Really tough at that length... but off the top of m head Legit Design's WSC72H+ might suit. It's taper is a little slow on spec, but the rod is pretty stout. I think it can handle hook setting duties with softbaits. Here's the review: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewlegitdeswsc72hplus.html

Thanks Cal!

I am wondering if that rod might not be a bit underpowered to throw a 8 inch hudd (5oz), since it seems to be rated to 1 1/4oz.

I had indeed a quick look at the WILD SIDE Casting Rod 6'4" Extra Hvy Bait Spec Finesse, but thought that 6'4 was a bit too short and the max weight, with 3.5oz, did not seem to right for an 8inch hudd either.

As stated in the review, it will do up to 4 oz with little to no issue... i don't recall going over that weight though. Just a tough ask at under 7'-5" ... still can't think of an alternative  ... you might need a custom wrap.

Major Craft has a Speedstyle 6'8" Big Bait that's rated to 3oz.. Brian.

Look at a muskie jerkbait rod. Something rated to 6 oz or so if you need a rod that short.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Very much appreciated! I will tinker a bit over it and see if any BF deals will entice me to try something out. Will keep you posted!

I took the "cheap" way out and got a Dobyns 807.
