I have both. To be they are almost identical on sensitivity. And the 844c is a little more versatile. They are both great rods!

I think yes the 844 has more versatility, I don’t know of anything I couldn’t use it for with at least to a degree of success. My number one favorite technique for the 844 is swim jig. Love it.
The 873 is an amazing rod. Shines of course for a Carolina rig with like a 1/2 oz weight. I don’t care for it as much with a heavier weight personally. It can toss large spinnerbaits, big Texas rigs, and swim jigs with ease. It even works as an open water jig rod to drag football jigs. But oddly the thing I have really liked it for recently is wacky rigging a senko over thick grass. That extra power in the fast action is excellent at pulling them free from hydrilla.
Conclusion. Can’t go wrong with either and if you can swing it get both! Tight lines buddy.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting a NRX+ 873c, 844c and the 843c.dirtygeary wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 7:42 amI think yes the 844 has more versatility, I don’t know of anything I couldn’t use it for with at least to a degree of success. Only had limited time with them so far but I am liking the 844c the most.

What reel are you guys pairing the 873 with ??
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible

I am using a Daiwa Steez A on all of mine. Balances the rod out nicely.

I have one with a '20 Metanium and the other a Bantam. The Bantam seems to balance it better.

I don't pay a ton of attention to balance. I have a zillion sv tw g on mine and love it. I mostly use mine for football jigs. Such a great rod! But like someone said earlier, I prefer 5/8oz and down.
