Looking for help on NRX + 873

Need a bit of help. I have an NRX 894 and a couple of NRX 854 rods. Im looking for something similar in strength with a little more tip Would the 873 be in the neighborhood? If not any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

I don’t have the current NRX plus 894 but have the 854 and 873. I had the old 894. My thoughts are is the 873 would fit right in between the 854 and 894.

"I have two 873 NRX+'s. One is my dedicated jig and worm rod. The other is for about everything else. I have had the 854 and 894 before. The 893 is going to fish similar to your 854, just longer. The 873 definitely fishes stronger than the 854/893. It is my favorite rod in the lineup. It will work for 3/8-5/8 jigs, trigs, spinnerbaits and many other things. It is the most versatile rod in the lineup in my opinion. I also believe if it had another name other Carolina Rig rod, it would be much more popular."

"I too have both the 873 & 893 and the 873 definitely is a more powerful rod than the 893 & 854. The 873 is my favorite rod in the NRX+ lineup. It's so versatile that I might even own more than one. I also agree they should label it as something other than a CRR. If they did, it would be hard to find one available for sale anywhere."

"To me the NRX 873 CRR is close to the NRX 854 in terms of power but I will give the edge to the 873,,, with that said the 873 is not as powerful as the 894, , the rods that the op was asking about was the 893,,
The 853 I would actually consider a Med Power but its listed as M/H ,,,the 893 is more of a med/heavy in my opinion ,, the 873 really should be rated different than what it is

, but anyway all I know is this, I have throwed everything from a 1/4 Oz to a 3/4 oz on the 873 and it handles it well , it will do in a pinch for a 1/2 oz spinner bait or chatterbait as well ,,,
If i ever get a wild hare like I did a few years ago and sell all my Loomis stuff,,, there will be three rods that will never go and that is both my 873's and my 894"

"I own the prior generation 893,873crr and a newer gen 873crr+. The prior generation 873crr has a stiffer tip and feels more powerful than the newer 873crr+. Then again, it feels like it is faster in action than the newer model. The 873crr+ is more parabolic in action, probably because of the spiral x blank. I love them all. I actually bought an extra nrx 893 when they were closing them out last year, for 35% off. The 893 is great for 1/4 to 3/8 oz jigs with a creature type trailer, senkos and 1/4 to 3/8oz spinnerbaits too. I actually feel the 893 starts to get a little stressed when fishing a 3/8oz jig with trailer, in heavy vegetation. I’ve missed several fish, because I feel like I didn’t get a good hook set. I was fishing from a kayak during these times, that could’ve also contributed to it. It’s a great stick though. When I throw a 3/8oz jig with a trailer, in some of this heavier vegetation, I go to my 873crr. It’s got some good power. It was also my chatterbait rod, until I bought the 883bcr. It worked flawlessly.
This biggest question for you is, what weights and lures do you mostly use. The new nrx 893+ will handle a bunch of different style of fishing(jigs,worms, senkos, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and etc), if your sticking with the 1/4oz to 3/8os weights."

873crr is not as powerful as the 894, but more powerful than the 854.

It balances better with a Bantam.

I second the Bantam. Tried a USDM zillion, Met, and Steez and the Bantam balanced it best.

I love the 873CRR. I picked up an Antares at a deal and to me, that’s the perfect jig and worm set up.

Im probably going to try a new Zillion SVTW and add a touch of weight to the back end of the rod. I will let you guys know how it finishes up. Thanks for the insite.

Pictured is a balanced 844 MBR and a 873CRR, both with ALPS balancing kits, approximately 3/4 of an ounce balances them perfectly with a Metanium or any other reel in that weight range.

Do you just cut the tip off the butt section and epoxy the kit in?

Yes for the newer NRX+ series, for other rods you may have to shave down the cork some if the butt end is too large in diameter, It's rod dependant.

This is really clean...like really clean. Where do you buy the kits from?

I feel like I need to go buy a rod to try this on now!
