Loomis IMX Pro SJR 901

Hi, so I have an 18 year old GL3 SJR 700 rod (5'10 mag light power) that the reel seat is basically broken on.



I am looking for a replacement rod in the near future and I was looking at the IMX Pro SJR901S rod, it has similar specs and I think i will really like the extra length

I have a 1000 size shimano Nasci reel



I would use this rod for small crank baits and in line spinners. I know they make a 6 foot version (which may balance better with my 1000 size reel) but I have been getting longer rods as i have been upgrading over the last several years and love 7'5 and 7'6 rods.



Any reviews on this particular model? ps pics of some tackleporn would be good too

Sir I am unsure of how much information you’ll get on that particular model as I only saw it mentioned here when Loomis originally pulled the 901 and 902 from their original NRX lineup eons ago.

You’ll find plenty on the NRX 901 here and would base some intel off of that feedback.

For what it’s worth I lip hundreds of river smallmouth a year on the 901 NRX+. I’ve had it in rotation since the pre plus days. It’s one of the 4 must have Loomis smallmouth spins in my hands.

Personally I wouldn’t pair it with a 1000 sized reel but I realize everyone is different.

Yes sir. On the lead/plastic side 901, 902, 872 and DSR

I do a lot of winter fishing for consolidated river fish and lean on the 821 NRR for that along with the DSR.

Josh Douglas as well. Mentions them often on his YT page if referencing his “what’s on my deck” guide trips. Both 901’s are of course adept at throwing the same stuff.

ok so an update to this thread, I went to the tackle store and put a 1000 size nasci on the 901S IMX pro that they had there.



it was fine. It actually felt pretty nice



I am going to get this rod soon (Wifey even said so LOLOL)



but one thing is for sure: they have gone up in price. from $439 last year to $539 Canadian this year.



I'm still getting it l don't care LOL



it seems like the tip is nice and light and the extra length is exactly what I am looking for

yup, I think it goes like this:

GCX 350ish
IMX 540ish
GLX 650ish
NRX 750
Conquest 850 (Canadian Dollars)

something like that. they all went up by like $100

but then again a pack of butter is $9 up here now lol

it's all messed up.

thankfully rod technology has not improved (at least not much) in the last five to eight years. Stocked up on 50+ setups prior to 2018...reels have improved (marginally) but rods, not so much.

prices today are insane.

Im pulling the trigger on the IMX Pro though it feels incredible with the nasci 1000 on it.

I don't mind paying for good equipment.

that being said, I don't think I'll ever step up to the GLX or higher level unless i win the lotto lol
