DX702C for inshore?

Post by russ57 » Fri Apr 14, 2023 4:14 pm

I bought this rod a few years ago on a 40% sale, but have rarely used it because it was too stiff for most sized ned rigs. Do you think it could be used in an inshore context for small plastics (for example, CAL DOA shad on 1/8-1/4 jighead). Based off of the weight range it seems plausible with say a tatula SV. In general, a ML casting rod is generally about equivalent to a M spinning rod, which is what many inshore fisherman use for these lures. Has anyone tried to use this rod for inshore or is it too underpowered?

I haven't used the 702c but, the 701 handled 3-4lb bass pretty nice, and a few larger quite well too. It will bend quite a bit under load to protect the line and hooks.

I have that same rod, it’s great for inshore fishing, I usuall us a paddle tail on a 1/4 oz jighead, or on a 1/8 oz Swimbait hook with a fluke or a paddle tail, I have caught plenty of reds to 6-7 lbs, handled them just fine

I've only used the 703 for inshore, but I'm pretty confident the 702 would be great for speckled trout and reds on those smaller swimbaits.

I don’t know about inshore but I also picked up a Dx702c which I thought would be a great 1/8 -3/16 micro jig rod. My loomis 852jwr is a much better casting rod with these baits used 8 lb FC jdm alderbaran 30 on both. I was fishing smaller paddle tails as well and the rod was much more enjoyable casting a little heavier bait for me. I’m thinking of getting rid of the rod but I’m going to try a free rig with 1/4 oz first anybody like the rod for other things?
