Sierra BFS-700 or 701 for Neds

Post by russ57 » Fri Apr 21, 2023 11:40 am

Hello all, I am looking for advice regarding the Sierra bfs series. I want to choose 1 for exclusively ned rigs. Does anyone have experience with both and have a preference for Neds? I saw Hobie's review of the 701c, and he said the 701c has a more traditional taper(no carbon tip) than the 700c(has carbon tip), which makes the 701c better suited for overall bass fishing. However, the lure he was using was a 4 inch senko on 1/32 hook, which is bigger than a ned rig. Does anyone have insight into which one is better for exclusively Neds?
SLX bfs is probably going to be my choice of reel.

Is go 701c or, the Phenix Classic BFS 7'1. I don't have much time with the Phenix but, it feels like a slightly better buy. Similar tapers but, the Phenix feels slightly better in hand.

Either rod is more of an open water rod vs pitching around cover. I'd use a wide variety of Ned rigs with either rod.

Where are the Phenix Classic BFS rods available at?

I have checked there several times and the Phenix Class lineup is no longer listed.

That's odd. It is available on their website for purchase.

Avoid solid tips unless they are rolled into the blank. Even then its more of a drop shot or shaking type of a taper. It let's you shake the rod and keep a bait nearly stationary with the solid tip flexing. It actually sucks for hook setting and collapsing wire weed guards on something like a ned unless you adjust.
