GLX MBR843C vs Poison Adrena 611 Medium+ for T-rigs

Post by Trucha » Tue Mar 05, 2024 1:46 am

Hello folks, I’m looking for a new T-rig rod. It’ll used with a Trick Worm or a UV Speed Craw and a 3/16 bullet.

I’m interested in sensitivity, balance and rear grip (I like long handles) and I like this two rods:

- G. Loomis GLX 843C MBR
- SHIMANO Poison Adrena 6’11” Medium +

What do you prefer?

Does anyone know the SHIMANO Poison Adrena 6’11” Medium + rear grip length? And the balance point?

Thanks a lot

If you like long handles the glx is for you. I've never had a glx 843 but I have the 842 and I had the 6'11" Adrena. I like the taper on the glx more

I've held that PA 6'11", but not fished it. I own two GLX 843 MBR's and can say it's perfect for what you want.
The 843 is my main 3/16-1/4oz T-Rig rod. It's also great for spinnerbaits, 1/4-5/16oz jigs, 1/4oz mini max Chatterbaits, and flukes.
I always have at least one every trip out, lot's of time I have two.

The following are measurements for the handles of both the GLX 843c MBR and the Shimano Poison Adrena PA1611M+ rods:
  • GLX 843c MBR Handle Length from the rear of the reel seat: 14"
  • Shimano Poison Adrena PA1611M+ Handle Length from the rear of the reel seat: 13.75"
Fishing Impressions:
  • GLX: Perhaps the most flexible rod in the entire GLX lineup with a soft tip well suited for your typical reaction lures such as spinnerbaits and swim jigs but with plenty of power and felt sensitivity to present light 1/4oz-3/8oz bottom contact lures.
  • Shimano PA: Simply a joy to fish and while it's less versatile when compared to the GLX rod, its standout quality is a fast tip that is both sensitive and has a fast transition to the powerful midsection of the rod. Ideal for light 1/4oz-3/8oz bottom contact lures and a relative bargain at this price point.
  • Side by Side Comparison: The GLX is a far more versatile casting rod but the Shimano Poison Adrena is the better rod overall if you are seeking a dedicated bottom contact rod in the ~$375 price range. Having said that, you are in the prime price category of almost every rod manufacturer so there are almost and endless list of options both domestic and JDM.

Thanks montey and City17Banner.

A few months ago, I sold my NRX 854C. It is a really sensitive rod but the rear grip is too short, the balance is bad and the tip is a bit heavy, IMHO.

I was looking for a new T-rig rod and I have just bought my GLX 843C MBR, because Poison Adrena 6’11 is hard to find here in Spain.

My GLX has good sensitivity, similar to my NRX, a pretty long handle and a better balance. But the tip is still a little bit heavy, in my opinion.

If I compare it to my Daiko Droog C70H, my GLX weighs 4.34 oz and my Daiko 4.76 oz, but my Daiko seems to weigh nothing in my hands, it’s like a feather. I think it’s because of the guide train: 12 stainless guides (GLX) vs 9 titanium guides (Daiko).

I asked to my 9 years old daughter and she told me that my GLX is heavier than my Daiko. Children always say the truth :D

I’m not sure I’m 100% happy with my GLX and I’m thinking about the new Major Craft Day’s 360 610M. I think it might be enough for light T-rigs (a Trick worm or a UV Speed craw with a 3/16 bullet). It has a Toray 1100 blank and ten titanium guides.

I know the 1100 Toray blank because I have a Major Craft Aji do S622L. It is my horse mackerel rod and I absolutely love it.

Now I need to know how long the Major Craft Day’s 360 610M rear grip is :D

PS. I’m sorry for my bad English.

No worries at all about your English sir, you are doing fine!

If life was easy and fair, I'd recommend the Daiwa Steez Racing Design RD STZ701MH/HXB-ST "Hustler Finesse Tune" since that's the best JDM rod I have ever used for any bottom contact lures between 1/4oz-1/2oz but these spectacular rods were never produced in large quantities and folks like me who have more than one rarely ever sell them since they are such wonderful rods! I agree about rod balance trumping rod weight, I see it most often on my Evergreen International Kaleido Inspirare Rapid Gunner RSR, it's a fairly heavy rod at 146g or 5.15oz, but it's so perfectly balanced that it never feels heavy when I use it for deep water bottom contact lures from 3/4oz-1.1/2oz!

Good luck with you Trig rod search sir!

Had this Shimano-Jackall Poison Adrena rod before upgrading to Ultima. Nice balance and very sensitive. Great option for t-rigs and any soft plastic applications.

Get the MBR rod. The now old GLX 843 is exactly the rod you're looking for. It has a nice rear grip a touch longer than most. They float with a Zillion on them. No tip heaviness at all. My main t rig rod.
