How would you fix this spool (that was dropped)?
Hi guys,
while I was organising some tackle, I accidentally dropped a spare 1016 G1 spool on the floor and as luck has it it landed in the perfect angle to put a significant dent into it.
I am curious how you would attempt to fix it (if this is possible) and how much bend in the spool is acceptable without harming the breaking system of the reel.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions!
For some reason, I am unable to attach a pic..

If the bend is significant, you probably wouldn't be able to do anything. At the rpm's this thing is spinning, you will feel and hear the vibration, it won't be smooth. But kinda need pics.

How can I upload pics here? I tried everything.
Here is a pic that I posted on a different forum.

I had to re-format my file again. It uploaded it, but in the previous format I was not able to attach it.
Might worth considering a bit more updated file managing system for the forum
Thanks for the help!

These spool lips are so soft. The issue is that the more you bend and tweak it, the weaker it becomes. It will eventually crack. Shape it best you can without breaking it, and see how it runs.freelancer27 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:24 pmI had to re-format my file again. Yep, thats what i did today. Looks better and it doesnt sound that bad in the reel. Will only use the spool for pitching activities to keep the rotations lower.Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 7:06 pmThese spool lips are so soft. Lets see what happens
Re: How would you fix this spool (that was dropped)?
So this is what i used, nail scissors. The handle is round and polished, which doesn't leave any scratches on the spool. By applying pressure from the bearing/rotor side of the spool, you can bend out the lip with semi circular motion of the scissors handle applies to the lip of the spool. Don't use pliers or any items that don't have a large touching surface or it will easily break the lip. Used this on a few spools, and all of them held well and are perfectly usable.

Could be worse....I dropped my zillion coastal spool on concrete

After seeing this a few times over the years, I wonder if someone could manufacture a tool to repair these, like a solid steel hemisphere shape that could be gently applied to reshape the spool. Could cost the metal with something to soften up contact points too.

I think round wood or plastic rod might be good tool to straighten aluminium spool...

Agreed, a shaped piece of HDPE might just work, assuming you could form it so that the opposite edge sits flat on a stable surface.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Tht's a pretty good idea. SLP should make something.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 10:13 amAfter seeing this a few times over the years, I wonder if someone could manufacture a tool to repair these, like a solid steel hemisphere shape that could be gently applied to reshape the spool. It sucks that you damaged (destroyed) your spool. I damaged (destroyed) a Shimano Bamtam spool a couple of weeks ago by dropping it. I replaced it with a new Yumeya Bantam shallow spool.
