Low End Machines

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

got 3 of'em :big grin:
It's hard to beat the CLs for value. I have all 3 versions. The newest is my least favorite, but for $110 on sale, under 6 ozs and over 15#s of drag, you can't beat them. I feel like the previous version isn't much better than my Premiers, if at all. And all of them will cast a mile.

Mine would be Curado 200E5. I have 2 of them I use for cranking paired with Dobyns Champion glass rods. I have one on a spare rod that friends use when they come out on my boat. They are solid reels, especially with Boca OS spool bearing upgrade.

Cabela's Tournament ZX. 6 oz, 7.2:1 gear ratio, Retail $80. I got mine in the bargain cave for $37.50.

I've been fishing it for a couple of month now I usually fish 5 days a week. It's no TDZ, but it is smooth and casts well. Almost all my fishing is river fishing out of my jet boat for smallmouth, and my dog and I carry lots of very fine grit into the boat. If this reel works out, I'll buy more. When they start to grind a bit it won't hurt near as bad as when a Pixy starts making strange noises.

I'm not sure which is more low end......my Curado's (200e & 50e) or my Fuego's, thinking my Curado's as I like the Fuego a little bit more.

Cabela's version of Daiwa reels during their blowouts, have been good to me from a value vs cost standpoint.

Same here. It's on a St Croix LEC68MXF. I use it for finesse jigs, small t-rigs, and 4" senkos.

I may have made a mistake here. I have a Curado 201E7 in my current rotation, and I believe it retailed for less than the 51E.

I have it paired with a brown St Croix LEC70MHF. I use this combo, with 12lb 100%, for jigs and plastics. It also saw time on a the Loomis Smallmouth topwater stick. I believe I had it spooled with 10lb Gamma copoly, and it was used for the LC Sammy, the Megabass Giant Dog-X, and the Pop-X.

I have the previous generation Cabela's Prodigy baitcasting reel...the grey one, not the current model. Says right on the reel that it's made by Daiwa. Some posts elsewhere on here say that it's equivalent to a Daiwa Advantage.

During sales, it sold for $65.-

It's a solid reel. But I don't use it much. I had three at one time, but sold two in local flea markets.

I also have two Prodigy spinning reels, a 2000 and a 2500, again the previous generation. Made by Daiwa. Seem to be the same as a Tierra.

Bought for $65 during sales.

My Daiwa 153HSTLA. Picked it up new off fleabay for 97.00 shipped. I can't part ways with it. It's a tank for sure, but man she can wing square bills into the next zip code. Mounted on a Powell Max square bill rod for good.
