Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW
Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW
TWS for the win.
Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW
I have also been looking at both of these reels and am in a similar state of indecision. My primary use for it will be pitching 3/8-5/8 total weight jigs and t-rigs from the bank and making short target casts/skips with the same lures. Secondary uses will be chatterbaits and spinners. The reel will be mounted on a CR723 IMX.
Right now I am leaning towards the Zillion SV TW in the 9.1 gearing for no other reason then I think it would be nice to be able to zip my lure back in. For short range work in these weights, will there be much difference between these reels?

I got the 9.1 Zillion SV. I really like it. It is smooth and fast. It casts and skips great as well. I feel it is a really good reel. I like the size of it too. It comes with a 90mm handle.Houndfish wrote:I have also been looking at both of these reels and am in a similar state of indecision. I prefer fast reels for jigs, plastics and close range applications. The speed difference may not seem like much but it adds up to many more pitches in a day, increasing your chances of catching fish.

For me the Zillion SV TW is no-brainer in your case, you get better distance, the reel is lighter and better match with 3 power rod. I would only pick 7.3 gear ratio instead of 9.1.Houndfish wrote:I have also been looking at both of these reels and am in a similar state of indecision. Why would you go with the slower gearing, more power?
I am intrigued with the 9.1 as most of my other reels are in the 6.X range and I want to see what a really fast reel is like. I also kinda like the green

Well, if you like the green it makes the difference - go for it! I just like the 7.X gear ratio for jig and T-rig applications.Houndfish wrote:Why would you go with the slower gearing, more power?

9.X is better for flipping grass.

I would always choose the reel made in Japan as opposed to Thailand.

I would do the 9.1. I really like the extra speed. The 4-6 IPT increase doesn't seem like much but, count up all of the pitches over the day and that leads to a lot more pitches within that timeframe.Houndfish wrote:Why would you go with the slower gearing, more power?

I have punched with the Zillion TWS 9.1 and I use the Zillion SV TW 9.1 for jigs. The speed helps get fish from cover before they can tie you up or rub your line on some rusty docks.

Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW
I know an angler who used to throw 2" soft plastics on 1/16oz jig heads with a light-action BFS rod, and his average distance was about 57ft. Very windy condition, and not a single backlash.
TWS+SV seems to work very well.

Hmmmm...funny what seven years of reality does to the smell and feel of "newer is better". Also, peeps were talking about the Zillion SV TW putting out longer casts, when all one has to do is take out the SV103 spool and drop in an OG 103 Type R/Type R+.
What say y'all now? Personally, no way then or now or in the future, would I choose the Zillion SV TW over the OG Zillion SV103.

Same here. I still run 3 SV103XSLs (as well as a few other OG Zillions) and will continue to do so. I have a few newer lighter reels, but that platform just feels "right" to me whether it be the way it palms or how robust and solid it feels. With the 34 mm spool compatibility I really don't see a reason to ever stop using them unless they just feel too heavy for a particular rod, which is really the only reason I have a few of Daiwa's more recent offerings.dragon1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 10:35 pmHmmmm...funny what seven years of reality does to the smell and feel of "newer is better". I have 7 SV103s and they are by far the best reel for bass fishing ever made.
Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW
I know this is an old thread, but since you posted I had to chime in. I have only fished hard now for about 10 years and only appreciated good equipment for about 7. The SV103 will be a reel I forever regret not getting. My wife bought me a Zillion TWS 9.1 and the SV103 7.9 was on sale for like $200 at the time. I have passed up a few other SV103s too, I really wish I had grabbed a 7.9 and at least one 6.3. Really wish I had bought a T3 Ballistic when they were around a hundred bucks, they aren't an all time great like the SV103, but still a good buy.RMCatchNrelease wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:13 amI have 7 SV103s and they are by far the best reel for bass fishing ever made.
