2019 Daiwa Morethan PE 1000 TW

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I personally love my Morethan. It will bomb as well as any reel I've used.....but the lower line capacity forced me to put an OG Steez 100 spool in it. I was emptying that spool of 30# X9 braid, which is actually thinner than other braids. With a 1/2 oz chatterbait + trailer, I was easily casting 90 yds. It was crazy the first time I casted it. It was so fast that I thought it would blow up.
Thanks for the info. I just picked up a morethan recently but haven’t had a chance to use it. 30lb braid is my go to all around line and I was curious about the shallower stock spool. Is the steez 100 your favorite spool in it? Have you tried many others?

Has anyone dropped an OG Type R + 34 mm spool into this beast yet? If so, what are your findings?

I like the stock spool a lot, but i can cast off a full spool of 30# braid. The og steez 100 spool is similar in performance, with higher line capacity. Its not quite as free as the stock spool, but I suspect the extra weight of the line is what's stopped it from equaling the stock spool.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Awesome. Just got an OG 100 spool in today. Looking forward to trying out a bunch of spools it in. Dreamy reel for sure.

Alternatives for line capacity in Morethan could be:

RCS 1016
I'ZE Factory Steez Hyper Cast
Steez A 34mm
Steez 103 Red Dimpled (Type R+)
Steez 103 Black Dimpled (Type R+)
RCS 1000 SV Deep
TDZ Type R+
TDZ Type R

Seems like the Thunder has died down a bit on this reel...I just received a used (I'm the fourth owner) of a Morethan 1000 PE SV XH that is still super smooth and tight. It appears to be in excellent overall condition.

I plan to spool on 30lb braid + fluoro leader and pair up with my Evergreen Heracles EG Swimming for 3/8-1oz moving open trebles baits. Mostly topwaters, cranks, lipless, even chatters and buzzbaits.

Anyone else have some updates on the water assessments they want to share?

Koolio Jorrick, which gear ratio did you acquire and what techs are planning for it? Have you decided on a rod yet to pair it with?

I was going to Change out to a cf handle but after getting it in hand
I was like ummm I like this handle and haven’t changed it. I am waiting for some line to cast it with but I got this one from jdmth and it’s the 8.6:1
So I’m just not sure how I’m going to like it but I will give it a whurl
I see the prices are coming down. Seemingly weekly so I had to at least try.

After the first cast I’ll know what direction I’ll go in

I have the 2019 in SHL and XHL.
Great reels.
Heavier than the Steez (also great), but has other features / line out click, which I appreciate.

With all the available spools, it is at least on Steez level in my book.

Thanks Bro...I'll wait on your report card, here and on Greg's back door party room 8-)

FWIW, 100 mm aluminum handles provide extra weight to better balance some rods, and feel very solid/rigid/sturdy.

Thus far, just cranking and playing with the mechanical functions in hand, it is very refined, super smooth, and solid. I firmly rate it better-than the Steez A (granted this is the XH 8.6 C6191 gears vs the Steez SH 7.1 duralumin).

Hmmmm, that's unfortunate...would you care to expound more on your "lemon" assessment?
