2019 Daiwa Morethan PE 1000 TW

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping that Daiwa had also included anti-rust ball bearings (like the ARB that Shimano uses) in addition to the MagSeal, because some of the main bearings, for example the main spool bearing on the opposite side of the drive shaft, are not MagSeal protected.
Daiwa's version of ARB is the CRBB (Corrosion Resistant BB) and the morethan does have them.

And more bearings in total than the steez a.
The morethan is a great reel...

That's what I had assumed too. :D

I has seen the internals of at least 2 Steez used extensively in Saltwater sent in for servicing in my local tackle shop. The bearings, especially the 2 spool bearings and the neighbouring areas were badly corroded. I suspect the ARB and CRBB are also not immuned to corrosion but perhaps they would last longer hopefully.

Resurrecting an old thread here but…was this reel the first that Daiwa put the newly designed “DigiGear” gears into? If not…what is?

I should have done more research before I asked this question. It does appear to have “DigiGear”…

Daiwa’s most advanced gear design, Hyper Digigear, delivers its unprecedented power to a bait caster of this size. Air Rotation system to create a reel that has few peers when it comes to smoothness. Silky smooth on the crank and flawless under load the Morethan PE TW is purity and precision in true Daiwa style.

Do the Steez A and TW have these newly cut gear teeth?

Digi gears have been around for a while. My Z200 has digi gear markings on the side plate. Must have been pretty new at the time to warrant writing it on the side of the reel. The new gear designs used hyper digi gears or something like that. Hyper gearing, hyper clutch, hyper alloy handle ect.

The only "special" attribute of the gears is the 8.6 are made of their Bronze/Brass mixture. This material usually is used in high end salt water reels.

Hi,

Can anyone advise the dimensions for the spool bearings for the 19 Morethan PE1000TW-XHL please? I think after 6 months of use in Saltwater, I had probably just worn out my first set of spool bearings. While casting and reeling in at high speed the reel is "singing" loudly, and I can feel a bit of grind especially when reeling under load. Once I removed the spool, the handle turns smooth and silent so I don't think it's the main/pinion gear issue.

I mainly use the reel for shore and boat micro jigging with 30g-60g Tungsten jigs, constant long cast >300+ft and fast retrieve is part of the game so most bearings wears out fast for my fishing situations... Maybe I should try ceramic, hopefully they'll last longer.

Thanks in advance!

Hi MountainMan 83, Thanks for the reference! :D But can you confirm that the bearing size for Morethan PE SV (older model) is identical with the Morethan PE TW (2019) model? The Hedgehog studio site stated that the bearing is for the Morethan PE SV but did not mentioned about the 2019 PE TW model. THanks.

I personally love my Morethan. It will bomb as well as any reel I've used.....but the lower line capacity forced me to put an OG Steez 100 spool in it. I was emptying that spool of 30# X9 braid, which is actually thinner than other braids. With a 1/2 oz chatterbait + trailer, I was easily casting 90 yds. It was crazy the first time I casted it. It was so fast that I thought it would blow up.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

This is a pairing I want to try. These have stronger magnets than the weak sauce magnets on the old steez. How do the new steez spools behave in the old reels?
