Zillion sv TW 1000

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Has any of you thought of swapping that fugly plastic engine cover? Trying to figure out which engine cover from another reel would be compatible.
Looks like the ss sv slp dress kit plate will work.

Looks awesome. That little simple thing makes this reel look so much more high end and so less Fuego/Tatula grade.

The plastic collar that is around the zero adjuster, was it removed or its some kind of a collar from ktf/zpi/hedgehog in silver that you've installed on top?

It's not my reel, so I'm not sure. It's from an Instagram account rembrandtreels. There are several fully customized new zillions on there. Here's another one.

Interesting. That Star Drag must be made in South Korea. I've seen a few models that are not sold anywhere but in Korea. Kinda wish i knew how to remove (if its even removable) the plastic collar that is around the cast control cap on the zillion1000. Would be nice to replace it with the blue'ish one from the 2020 zillion 10. Makes me wonder if its held by some kind of a glue like the engine cover is, or its not removable.

I pried mine off my SS SV and then put a new on one. I could have just left it off. It was painted underneath.

No but I have a 2nd SS SV I can pry off the engine cover on. Just sold my SS SV105.

Gotcha. I am wondering if the engine cover from the 2015 zillions with their machined aluminum engine cover is compatible with the new zillion. If it is, i think it'd look damn sweet.

I was wondering the same thing. I was planning on comparing a Tatula side plate to the SS SV. The Tatulas have a built in engine cover the same size as the one on the Zillion SV TW. Same with the old Zillion HD

Also in that pic the SS SV engine cover appears to be slid over the existing engine cover. I'm sold my SS SV with the kit but I'm pretty sure the engine cover is a ring rather than a C shaped peice. That pic looks like maybe the SS SV engine cover was cut and slid over the existing one.

Yea, all the aftermarket engine covers sold by slp, ktf, hedgehog, etc are always a ring that you attach with a double sided tape. Personally, i want to remove the plastic engine cover completely and replace it by a metal one.

Anybody with hands on experience to compare the JDM and USDM versions?

I have the 8.5:1 usdm version and I am wondering if I should get another one or a JDM version.

Would use it for 12# fc and senkos.

Is there a difference in the two reels for skipping? I personally think that the USDM version with the Sv boost spool is not a great skipper at all.

Thanks guys!
I've used the JDM to skip and pitch skip jigs for about a year now. Have used 2 USDM variants to skip senkos and shakyheds and the other to skip bladed jigs and 1/4oz swim jigs. awesome skipping spool. on par /w the steez sv 1012.
Interesting!

I was very disappointed in the skipping abilities of my 8.5:1 usdm.

Are you seeing a difference in this regard between the US and JP versions?
Zero difference. They both skip effortlessly.
