Zillion sv TW 1000

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

What paint issues? The guy had a pointy part or hard edge of another reel clattering against it during a boat ride.
I think he’s referring to the bubbling issues described by other posters, not me.

I think my experiences show that the top piece is more than likely plastic, and it’s definitely softer than my other reels. Heck, my 3 year old kid drug one of my Mets across the concrete and it barely put scratches on it. That’s a completely different discussion than paint.

This all makes me hesitant to buy one. I still cannot decide between the 7.1 and 8.5 either, now with the paint issues I don't know what to do. Most say this is an absolute top tier reel though.
I’ve been fishing my zillion tw 1000 every day since it came out in Japan outside an 8 day trip I took to the coast. It wears a cover when not in use. I haven’t looked at it under a lens, but as far as I can tell, not a scratch nor bubble on it.

Always thought that the top of the zillion1000 is metal, but after reading some comments in here, IT IS plastic/zion. It doesn't feel cold to the touch like the lower part of the frame and handle side plate. A bit disappointing because the reel weight being made out of aluminum was one of the two things that impressed me most. But since this reel is so damn smooth, i really don't care. Will be a great reel to use in cold weather as well.

It's just a cover. The frame is still aluminum. I'm guessing this is done to have the frame shape be no bigger than needed for strength and have a light weight plastic top cover to define the shape. Weight savings essentially.

The top plate is the same as on the z2020 except that one has it in metal. What sucks is that you can't buy this part separately, which i really don't understand.

No joke! Not only do I have ratios to pick from, but 2 different manufacture countries... Probably gonna go with a JDM 7.1.

For those of you who have had quite a bit of time on the water with this reel now, would yall say it'd handle fishing in saltwater fine? Recently got a Steez ags bottom contact (previous model, not the new one) and trying to decide what reel to put on it. Will be getting used in South Louisiana for redfish and flounder.

When I was in NJ, I was about 7 miles away from the bay, maybe another 5 miles from the Atlantic. I had a couple of various JDM Daiwas. Never used them in the brackish. You may want to contack Daiwa for their guidance.

There are some folks that will Cerakote reels. It ain’t cheap due to the intricacy, but would likely hold up better than the noted factory paint. Plus you could do any color you want at that point. Sounds like these reels may be worth that investment to some.

So after all this time, has anybody tried the zillion1000 gears inside a steez tw? I can't seem to get an answer for it to be compatible or not :|

Just got info from the Tackle Trap, Zillion Sv1000 gears will NOT be compatible in the Steez A. I finally ordered a 7.1 JDM Zillion and noticed my Steez had a faint ticking when reeling. Broke her down and re greased and now it is gone. I asked about Zillion gears thinking the brass might fix the issue if a loose spool pin/pinion connection...

I posted a picture comparison months ago on page 14 between the steez A gears and new zillion gears(JDM-non brass). The main gear is identical. The pinion in the new zillion is a touch taller.
