Steez A vs. Morethan
Anyone able to provide feedback on these 2 reels? Trying to decide between them to pair with a new Megabass Mad Bull rod. I've got a couple Steez's and they are fantastic, but I've heard great things about the Morethan too.
Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
Morethan for sure. If only because it it is a black and gold Steez A that matches the rod. They also seem to go for cheaper than the Steez reels on Ebay despite actually being a Steez. I guess you're not paying for the Steez name? I'm not complaining. Literally a Betterthan Steez in the 8.6 bronze gear for less $.
Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
I have both in the 7:1. They’re nearly identical reel aside from cosmetics , handle, and the spool. Gears swap, etc. I would choose the morethan everytime. I like the stock spool in it and it just looks cool. I got mine from Asian fishing portal for 368 last year.
Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
I have both and prefer the morethan a little more due to the longer handle, better knobs, and metal drag star. I also love the black on gold color scheme.
I have both the 7.1 and 8.6 and they are sweet indeed. No complaints at all.

Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
I have 1 Steez A and 4 Morethans.
Given that you can score the new Morethan for aroun 400USD, I would definetely go with it, since it has Brass gears (in the XH version), larger handle with better knobs and it also just looks better.
Only argument for the Steez A is a higher capacity spool. I solved this by having Steez A's spools in all of my Morethans.

Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
Are brass gears only in the XH model?
Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
I think it is actually something they call marine grade BRONZE. One of the few reels I have ever heard that has actual bronze gears over brass or aluminum...
Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
In XH it's ZYC Alloy / C6191 Marine Bronze / Aluminium Bronze :

In SH it's aluminium gears:

Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
Thanks, gents. Ended up buying an SH since the cheapest XH was an extra $300. Figure it's a worthwhile roll of the dice at $368, which was cheaper than any Steez A I could find.

Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
FYI...The XH gears require your reel sent to Japan for repair. My XH engaged on a cast and ruined the pinion gear. Spoke to Plat and JLS and they were told it in house repair only. If you look at the schematic, the gear set parts have an asterisk on them.jvelth74 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 8:02 amIn XH it's ZYC Alloy / C6191 Marine Bronze / Aluminium Bronze :

By the way, the gears were 7150 yen!!! A bit crazy but the reel was already in Japan. If I have to get another set I'm going aluminum from TTT.

Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
Probably doesn't matter anymore but...
Own quite a few steez and refused to get the morethan because it's so much more in price, that changed when the 8 came out since it has the brass gears.
Everything else is similar, morethan is a glossier paint and black with the cf accents but it has junk paint like the other steezs, it chips and flakes easily.

Are you talking about the Steez CT? What 8.1 brass gears fit the Steez A?eklikewhoa wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 10:24 amProbably doesn't matter anymore but...

Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
Technically those gears are 8.6:1 and bronze, not brass. Also, I think they are quite expensive and not so easily sourced. From what I remember reading I believe RM has some experience in the arena.eklikewhoa wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 5:44 amThe morethan brass 8RMCatchNrelease wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 5:34 amAre you talking about the Steez CT? Re: Steez A vs. Morethan
I mentioned 8, didn't go into tenths. I grabbed a set at a local shop when I was living overseas and they weren't any more expensive than most current reels.Craiger12 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:19 amTechnically those gears are 8.6:1 and bronze, not brass.
