BFS going mainstream? Curado BFS

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

It'd be nice if this move leads to Shimano bringing over more of their BFS rods to the U.S. I'm pretty sure the only rod they currently offer is the 172ml BFS Expride.

Yeah and that's hardly a "BFS" rod imo!

Just for perspective, did a quick search and the first mention of BFS on TT here, was in 2011:

We have to see if the Curado BFS is gonna have the ability to hang with the "trout BFS" reels with that stock spool.

I would love some trout rods for BFS in the USA. That however, is a niche within a niche.

What a wonderfull transition from heavy fishing to baitcasting finesse fishing for a mainstrean in just 10 years! Hoping that common people finds new BFS tackle such usable for everyday fishing, that we'll see more and more BFS tackle. Thanks for Shimano for created reasonable priced decent BFS reel! Now Daiwa should create BFS Tatula!

Awesome! 10 years and I have spent dollars equivalent to a used Porsche on BFS/trout tackle - I would also like to thank TT, my family not so much...

It may not have been referred to as "Bait Finesse" at the time, but our first review of a finesse tuned bait casting reel was actually in 2004 with the limited edition, yellow Pixy by Daiwa:

Daiwa attempted to introduce the movement to US anglers by bringing the PX68 across the pond a year after they debuted the PX68 in Japan. It was still a pricey reel though, so it didn't take off:

That’s true. I remember quite a few folks, myself included, used the original Silver Mica Pixy with 6, 8 and 10 lb test, with my Megabass F2-57X "Reservoir Dog" and a Megabass Pop-X.
I was talking about the actual term? Acronym?

I can see it becoming very popular for crappies, trout and river smallies. I use mine for walleye a bunch and its so much more fun than your standard spinning gear.
Are you using it for lead heads for walleye?
I use it on everything (but primarily lead heads, yea), just swapping rods. Been fishing walleye with bfs gear for over five years at this point, and i could never see myself going back. Just trying a buddy spinning setup for walleye feels like a massive downgrade and way less fun on the water.
Sweetness...yea, it's a ton of fun.

I've been using a Conquest 51S on a Dobyns DX 701C for lead head duties, and the smile factor is through the roof.

Now we just need more BFS rods available domestically. I know there are a few but not many...
