Back in Love again

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Never had one of these. Are they just magnesium TD Zillions?
The Fuego has a 36mm spool like the Zillion. It has the same magnesium frame as a TDZ 100M, but with 6.3 gears.
So it's a TDZ 100 with a different name?
Yes, only it has a brass crank shaft and brass worm gear, heavier spool and riveted handle, which is why it's heavier than the 100M. But because of those things they are practically bulletproof.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Ditto...I was going to sell a pretty clean 2nd TD Fuego 100, but it performs exceedingly well on my MB LWL Super Diablo II for 1/2-3/4 spinnerbaits. I just need to get new frame bearings.

I have another that was essentially NIB, and added a Z2020 swept handle, metallic red I-knobs, Megabass IP Honeycomb spool, OG Steez CCC and star drag and Carbontex. It's such a killer all purpose reel, and the 36mm spool brings in 28 IPT and it handles like what an MG OG Zillion would have, had one been made. It sits on my Evergreen Heracles EG Swimming with 30lb braid + 15-17 fluoro...that combo tosses and fishes superbly just about anything 3/8-1 that is moving, single hooks or trebles, doesn't matter.

I use to have this problem, but now I absolutely make certain that if I'm going to purchase something, it's something that I believe I can't live without. Easier said than done for sure.

For me it's my 1983 Daiwa Prolite 100.
This reel keeps on going and going! You can't tear it up. And that's why I buy every decent one I can find. I collect them now and bout one brand new in box never used
paid a little bit more than I should have but not many of them out there in that condition. I have 9 now.

This is how I feel about my OG Zillions. I have many and I don't have any plans to retire them, particularly for use on longer/heavier action rods.

The SV103 reels do that for me. I have 11. And the OG Zillion and TD-Z frame the same! I did pick up a Procaster ZX (the blue one) new in the summer from the 80s. What a premium looking reel for the time!

Ditto for the SV103. I have 3 of those as well. I lump them in with the OG Zillions though they are more versatile due to the 34mm spool.

Old school Ambassadeur reels are very similar. Great quality and timeless function.

Yeppers, and tons of aftermarket support and upgrades from Avail and other suppliers. Says everything about the eternal application of Abus.

When I want to fish, I reach for a Daiwa or Shimano. When I want to spend days in the woods traveling by canoe and fishing the rivers, I will take an Ambassadeur over everything else. For as much as I love my super tight tolerance Japanese made Shimanos and Daiwas, I don't want a grain of sand or two to make me a temporary vegetarian when I'm far from civilization.

Yeppers as in "unbreakable"...ask Zee Germans how those extremely precision built Panzers did in Sub-Zero weather versus the Shermans.
