Lets say that the newer generation of DC brakes don't have its iconic whine, and the price stays the same. Would you be interested in any of the newer DC reels?

A hesitant yes...love the system itself, but also love the whine.

When I fish the skinny creeks here at night, I want to be silent.

Not some shilling terror of lore that haunts the local creek.

Sure. It would be a new quality reel with new features.

I said no but after re reading the question I answered incorrectly

The conquest is just a absolute gem of a reel. It’s palms really good and whine or not the DC braking system I find to be very good at casting baits like sb, bb, and other high resistant lures.

The whine doesn’t bother me some times I get that bug where after fishing with a non dc reel I have to pick one up just to hear it whine

If it didn't whine then how would you let everyone know you're rocking the DC?

I had, fished, and wrote up the original Scorpion DC. In that model, Shimano muted the whine. I really disliked the fact it didn't whine. I find it amusing how some complain about the noise in the DC reels. Just goes to show you to each their own. 🤷‍♂️

I think that most complaining about the whine is from the newer DC models. The sound has changed. In the original calcuttas dc, nobody complained. It sounded "cool". My 2015 Met DC sounds almost annoying... almost.

I've not noticed any change in sound and I've fished almost every edition... not side by side, but a great majority of the DC offerings to be sure. 🤷‍♂️

People have been whining about the whine since they first came out . Have all the Conquest and Antares DC models and they still sound the same .....

the pitch in the newer models is much more piercing to the ear when compared to the original calais dc and conquest dc. might very well be because the coils of the dc module were exposed.

I thought the whine was cool when i first got the OG exsence DC, and probably fine around other gear enthusiasts. But at other times, ie most of the time, the whine is like normal whining... annoying.

Don't plan to get another dc with the whine.

With the different whines, absolutely recognise a different tone between the OG Calcutta 200 DC, OG Calais 200 DC, the OG Scorpion DC, Metanium DC, OG Excense DC, Curado DC and the SLX DC.

Different body metals and plastic composition - certainly amplify or muffle tones escaping while in cast... Can hear the difference over my 200db tinnitus...
