Pixy Airy Red Project Covid

Post by goldrod » Tue Aug 10, 2021 9:07 pm

so i found a like new Pixy Airy Red

went to the tackle trap and got
7.2:1 gear set
pxtr worm gear
a drag stack

What else do I need?
my intention is the use the PXTR drag star that I have even though I dont have a clicker conversion kit but my PX68 dont click either so maybe not such a big deal? but I also have a zillion type r drag star laying around
I intent t drop a px finesse spool in it.. but I have a presso spool coming because I never tried it , Im not sure what it will be like.
Am I missing anything parts wise? I think I love to tinker more than anything.. I should probably not say that its going on a PA rod...l   the 6'10", but that X7 super Eiger would be nice..

(Today was a day, I got some Raid Japan scratch baits coming in from state side so I am kinda stoked and I went from coasta's back to Maui Jims.. )

Hard to beat an Airy Red spool in distance. Other slower spools might be a little more BFS friendly though.

If it were me I'd head on over to plat and order the alphas ct mainshaft and to parts to convert it to a clicking drag star. Make sure you get the handle nut for the alphas too since its a different design.

I just ordered all the parts from the gear and up to the drag star

think that should do?

I added on mine a Steez103 brake dial, it looks much nicer and you can have red accent on it. A SS SV thumb bar with the red accent to match the reel. Zilllion line guide as well.

I like the thumb bar Idea
At this point I’m reaching into my wallet and my hand is going completely through

I was gonna do this to my airy red and yellow pearl. Get red/yellow brake dial, match up with red/yellow thumbar from SS SV 7.2/5.8.
Now my yellow pearl only gutted with alphas SV 105 SH’s internal (7.2 Gear, main shaft, drag stack, drag clicker) handle and spool tension cap (you need to replace this if you plan to use different star drag) and Zaion Drag star from alphas air.

I'll be on the look out for one.. Thanks
I wish this was a yellow but the stock spool is easily sold if I wanted to..

Can’t wait to get this reel on the water
But I’ve been struggling to get a rod for it.
I see that there are some new limited Megabass rods coming out
I had toyed around with that thought.
But I think a 6’8” or 10” rod will be the ticket.
Silly but I do not even have a reel need for this reel other than the personal challenge. The alphas with the consugi spool will probably be comparable and honestly a better fit for this edge rod that I forgot I took a reel off of.

I use a 6'8" Majorcraft Volkey BFS with a sweet spot around 1/8 to 3/16 oz total weight throwing 1/10 oz Neds and it will nearly empty the spool of 20# braid. That's a L powered BFS taper but it's a mag L really. Any ML rod with a 1/8 oz useable lower limit would do imo.
