Daiwa 2500 vs 3000 model?

I'm in the market for a new spinning reel(s) and I can't decide which model to choose. I'm accustomed to the old 2500 models with the larger spool diameters (equivalent to the new 3000 models?). I'm wondering why Daiwa downsized the spool diameters? I use 10lb braid exclusively on my reels, so I'm not sure if spool diameter does/will make a difference. I'm leaning toward the 3000 (compact) models, but I'm still not sure. Please share any opinions or suggestions. Thanks.

I suspect that Daiwa downsized its spool diameters to remain competitive in the market with Shimano, which was selling spinning reels with the same numerical designations but smaller spools and rotors and therefore could advertise lighter reel weights.

The 3000 Daiwas are preferable to the 2500s for fluorocarbons of 8 lbs. or more or for heavier nylon monofilaments; they should reduce the amount of line twist and Slinky-type coiling of line off the spool, and perhaps give slightly greater casting distance. Unless you are using an unusually stiff 10 lb. braid that holds coils in slack line (say, while a lure is sinking), you are unlikely to see any benefit from the 3000 vs. 2500. (I assume we are talking freshwater use for species that do not make long runs; for steelhead, one might want the larger reel, but I don't fish for them.)

I came to the same conclusion based upon the same observation. I placed an order for a 3000C-XH. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I can't speak for all the Daiwa models but the 3000 Tatula is the perfect size for bass fishing IMO. Slightly bigger than the 2500 but significantly smaller than the 4000. And the 2500 has way more line capacity than I need at 240 yards of 8 lb line. My 3000 Tatula has been flawless in 1.5 years of heavy use.

Daiwa 3000 spools are larger diameter than the 2500's? Please confirm.

Shimano I know they are both the exact same except for the depth/line capacity.

I've been buying 3000 in the most shallow versions I can find. The last set I bought were JDM Legalis Because US version held way too much line.

I can't help with the comparison to Shimano, but I can confirm I find them ideal for bass fishing.

Per Daiwa, the spool lip diameters are as follows:
1000 40 mm
2000 42 mm
2500 45 mm
3000 48 mm (this is what the old Daiwa 2500 measured)
4000 51 mm

I received my Certate LT 3000-CXH today. Doesn’t feel larger than the 2500 BUT I’ve read the “C” series actually has the body size of the model down but a larger spool.

Just put line on it today but I won’t be able to get on the water until next week. It doesn’t feel heavier or more unwieldy than the 2500. Fingers crossed, it will be just what the doctor ordered.
I’ll get back with a report end of next week, hopefully sooner.

On the water today. Reel is EXACTLY what I wanted!
10 lb Sunline Invisible ballpark of 75 yards, handled perfectly with a 5/16 Bifflehead w/4” Yamamoto double tail grub. Will probably drop it to 3/16 w/similar sized bait.
The reel isn’t too heavy or unwieldy, balances out perfectly w/Tatula Sig Elite Tak 7’ spinning rod
I’m happy.
