Zillion TW HD ‘22

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

In Z2020 is strong points; It's big and strong and long casting and very strong power retrieve. I use mine for seatrout when using braided line and I want cast far. It's casts near to OG HLC Zillion but Z2020 is not hard to cast at all. But in a freezing conditions Z2020 is amazing cold :D

3oz swimbait seems heavy for a reel this size, but I guess metal is metal when used correctly. Concerning the Z2020, just how big were the gears? I have read tons of reviews and seen pictures, but never a direct comparison. Would be so happy to own one eventually. The 1516-1520 Zillions are pretty tough reels, even the non HD version, the new version just seems so small for heavier duties.

Thanks for confirming the baggie. I’m a shimano guy and got a little concerned I might have gotten a reel that had been returned.

I have it on my destroyer javelin for now - the combo looks sick. I will be using it for mid to deep cranking and small paddletails like Keitech 4.8.

It doesn’t seem like the freespool is great but I know it’s designed for heavier lures/applications. Very curious to see how it casts. It will be another 2 months or so until I have ice out here.

I was a bit, a tiny bit but a bit nonetheless, hesitant because of the heavier bait parameter. I’ve become quite a fan of the OSP Blitz DR crankbait which weighs in at 11g, about 3/8 oz or so. It took one cast to allay my fears and each cast thereafter supported my choice.

Gonna stick my neck out and same as other 34mm Magforce Z spools. Basically identical to what you find in a Tatula 100/CT spool. The JDM specs for the Tatula have been same capacity as this new Zillion. Basically a black Zillion with a Magforce Z spool. Not sure on the braking profile yet. It's a boost spool but that doesn't automatically mean it's an HLC.

Even the 16/100 japanese rating seems generous considering how shallow the spool appears

Has anyone tested the low end castability of this reel yet?

Straight up looks like an 8/100 spool like the regular zillion. Maybe the US version will get a deeper spool.

This looks deeper than the slp1010, which is like 10lb-100m? This might be something like 12lb-100m.

What is the difference between SV BOOST (Zillion SV TW G) and MAGFORCE Z (the new 2022 Zillion HD 1000)? They both have a "two step brake system".

Part of the difference is in the SV-twist versus Z-non-twist:

Possibly also difference in spring stiffness, inductor size etc.
