I wish the reel was all matte black. I ended up ordering another standard Zillion instead of the HD. I’m looking for more of a flip/pitch reel, so I doubt the spool upgrade is worth the price difference.

Hobey Baker,
At first I also wished it was all matte black. What I’d say is I’m now glad it isn’t. As I fished with it the last couple of days I’ve noticed the matte hood gets a bit more slippery as the reel gets wet. The shiny paint on the rest of the reel as well as the standard Zillion gets a bit more grippy when wet or stays at least as grippy when dry.

i understand how you feel, for some reason i thought it was all matte black as well, i guess the official photos ( in black & white) are a bit deceptive , don't understand why they didn't follow through with the matte on the entire reel. I own a Daiwa P/F talula elite and honestly its not too far from this plus it has the gear engage function. I paid $366 usd ( including shipping) for this reel so i guess it depends on how you look at it, i know the 100mm handle which i absolutely love retails for close to $100 usd. Also this has Brass gearing vs the jdm zillion sv tw which has aluminum gearing ( $ 290 vs zillion G US model that has brass gears $350).
Build quality and tolerances feel exactly like the regular zillion sv tw, just not the overbuilt reel you get with the 19 zillion HD which i previously mentioned is one of my favorite reels ( punches way above its weight, seen numerous videos of it been used to catch Barramundi & Asian catfish), i feel like im cheating when i pair it up with my shimano expride 7'11 when Punching from a kayak. Shimano doesn't have anything close to it in terms of indestructability out right now ( i own a 18 MD antares & current 21 anteres, ,metanium, bantum ) in the low profile form factor. ( Shimano round reels aside)

I hear you about the handle. I have a 102 mm Studio Composite handle that I’ll be putting on this reel, so it wasn’t a decision changer for me.robertjb7771 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 2:38 pmUnread post by HobeyBaker » Mon Dec 27, 2021 5:05 pm

I actually have a quandary now, I bought the tw hd and completely forgot that I just bought a z2020, guess they'll just have to go head to head

That’s the only reasonable thing to do Doom!
Re: Zillion TW HD ‘22
I would keep both. They are lightyears apart. One is a 38mm wide spool over 9 oz reel and the other is a 34mm narrow spool sub 7 oz reel. If it was the old Zillion HD vs the Z2020 then those two are more similar in size, weight and capacity with the Z2020 just being the superior reel with braid but I would give the nod to the old Zillion HD for big non braid use. Both reels are 1 oz and up reels for me. Once I go below an oz I want a normal sized bass reel.doomtrprz71 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 8:08 pmI actually have a quandary now, I bought the tw hd and completely forgot that I just bought a z2020, guess they'll just have to go head to head

I'll definitely be keeping both, it just throws my rearrangement of combos out of whack that I just didLowRange wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 5:15 amI would keep both. They are lightyears apart. It’s really really easy to fall in love with this reel and the Zillion platform JohnnyA.
Re: Zillion TW HD ‘22
I got 3 of the Zillion 10s, 3 of the 1000XHs and now the HD.Kimbro1014 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 2:49 pmIt’s really really easy to fall in love with this reel and the Zillion platform JohnnyA.
Re: Zillion TW HD ‘22
The reel is now on digitaka (45.000 jpy) and amazon in Japan and on more sites.
I am divided on this one. I have two of the latest Morethans and two recent Zillions… I normally install ZPI/KTF spools and therefore not sure if anything is gained by getting the new Zillion (although pretty )
