I just noticed that the XH is an 8.1 not the 8.5 of the normal zillion so it appears the gears are different.
Sounds like they used the Alphas SV TW gears.

I don’t know? The alphas gears (on the left in top pic) don’t have a provision for clicking drag like the zillion g gears (right in top pic) or the steez ct gears (bottom pic).

It’s possible the ratio difference could be related to the size of spool and the handle length.
8.1 with 34mm and 100mm handle
8.5 with 31mm and 80mm handle

not a significant difference but just enough
The gear ratio is a static calculation based on main vs pinion gear teeth. The ratio won’t change due to handle or spool size, however the IPT and power will differ based on spool diameter and handle length.

You’re correct. I should have been more clear in my comment and used Inches/Centimeters Per Turn as the baseline.

I wonder if it shares the same gears as the new USDM Steez CT.

The handle length has no bearing on the gear ratio. Gear ratio means how many revolutions the spool spins for each handle turn. So a 8.1 gear ratio reel has a spool that spins 8.1 times for each handle turn.

Handle length really only impacts the ease of which you can turn the input shaft and the speed at which you can turn the input shaft. The ratio between input shaft revolutions per output shaft revolutions is determined by the gear ratio. A longer handle applies more torque to the input shaft which makes rotations require less effort but also requires a larger circumference and more time to complete.

No, it doesn’t have a bearing on the gear ratio but the handle length does have an impact on centimeters/turn:
A reel with a 100mm handle length will retrieve: 314cm/turn
That same reel with a 90mm handle length will retrieve: 282.6cm/turn
I don’t believe the retrieve makes a difference.

The spool still turns the same amount of times regardless of handle length. Now inches per turn (IPT) could change if the spool diameter changes.

And all those math classes with diameters, revolutions and pi.

Just picture a yardstick glued to your reel handle. Whether you turn the yard stick once or the handle once, the spool moves the same. Just get more or less torque from the handle length. Same concept as tightening a bolt, the threads turn the same whether you use a 10" ratchet or a two foot breaker bar.

How does the depth of the line spool affect the retrieve ratio? Does the amount of the line on the spool affect retrieve ratio?

No, not comparing two full spools (one shallow and one non-shallow).

However, if you make a very long cast and almost empty the non-shallow spool (to below depth of shallow spool), then the non-shallow spool will have lower IPT…

This went off onto a tangent. I’m going to start a new thread and deleting my previous comments.
