Looking at a Daiwa Certate LT 3000 or 4000

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Looking at a Daiwa Certate LT 3000 or 4000

Post by Reverendo » Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:44 am

Maybe someone here can weigh in. I'm looking to get a Certate LT in one of the above sizes, but being that'll I'll buy it online I cannot compare them side by side. Really I'm looking at a reel that is very similar in size (not necessarily weight), to a Ballistic LT 4000, or a Stradic Ci4 4000... perhaps a tad smaller, but not as small as the Vanford 2500 /3000. Can you point me in the right direction?

I had several iterations of the 2500 over the years. The most recent model, 2019, felt smaller than previous models because of the design, so you may want to take that into consideration.

I can post a picture of a 3000 Vanford next to a 2500, 3000, and 4000 Certate when I get home.

I have a 4000 Fuego LT and the Certate 4000 LT is the closest match. I believe the 4000 Fuego LT and Ballistic LT use the same frame, but use different material.

That would be awesome. Thank you very much. I'm very curious to see how the Vanford 3000 compares to the Certate LT 3000. I have the Vanford 3000 and find it to be quite small. Thanks.

not imo, the 2500 certate feels light. its not as light as a luvias airity (obviously) but doesnt feel like a tank (weight wise) like older certates. i have several of the 2010 and 2013 certates in the 2000 size and the LT 2500 feels lighter.

Thank you Hobey...
Can you tell me what I'm looking at? Certate 4000, Vanford 3000, Certate 3000...??

From top to bottom: 4000 Certate LT, 3000 Vanford, C3000 Certate LT, 2500 Certate LT.

The photo is a little deceiving since the spools are sitting lower on the Daiwa's. The 3000 Certate and the Vanford are pretty close in size with the Certate being smaller. I had a Stradic CI4+ in the 4000 size at one time and it was larger than the 4000 Certate.

If you compare Certate LT against some light weight reels then yes they are heavier, but strangely my Certate LT feels very close to Steez Type 2 or some other reels in the 170 to 200 gram range.

I have 2 certate LT 2500 and in my hands they feel lighter than their weights (205 gram JDM version). I have a 2016 certate 2004CH on scale only weights 5 gram more (210 vs. 205) but feels noticeably heavier and more solid in my hands. I actually can't say lighter is better in this case because they feel very different and I like both

There are two different size 3000's the CXH (compact, 2500 body) and the XH (4000 Body), the XH is a heavy duty and a more powerful reel, it comes with a 5mm longer handle and larger knob. I have a 2500, 3000CXH and 4000, and use the 4000 the least it punches way above it's weight and just seams like overkill for smaller Salmon species (up to 12lbs or so) they are super powerful for their size, but yet feel lightweight and effortless fishing even high resistance baits. I had a Vanford 2500 and it felt cheap so I returned it after landing a few fish with it, next to the Certate LT 2500 there's really no comparison. Daiwa hit the sweet spot with this one I have landed a boatload of Salmon on all three of them and they are still butter smooth just as they were right out of the box.
