Ambassadeur 1500C or 2500C for long distance light fishing

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Ambassadeur 1500C or 2500C for long distance light fishing

Post by pux » Sat Jan 08, 2022 4:34 am

I'm wondering if there is significant difference in performance between Ambassadeur 1500C and 2500C when talking about long distance light fishing. Saying light fishing I mean kastmaters, jigs, lipless baits and minnows between 4-12 grams. The reason I ask is because I already have 1500C that I'm going to tune up as it should - light spool, SIC bearings, aftermarket worm/idle gears, etc. So I can go ahead OR change the frame with a 2500C and do the same /as not all parts are identical for this 2 models/. Also - should I get a magnetic brake for such application or the stock centrifugal brakes are enough? Hope there are experienced guys that could help me :). Thanks in advance!

I have a 1601c that has been super tuned with avail spool, ceramic bearings, dual bearing worm gear, super light centrifugal brake block and a mag brake.
It is a wonderful reel, but it cannot achieve the distance I get with a tuned 4601 “c3” (ceramic bearings, avail or AMO spool, dual bearing worm, +/- mag brake etc).
The 4601C bombs 7 gram lures.
I guess the 2500c will get more distance than the 1500.

:) Thank you very much, Sir!

Yes, I'm sure 2500C will get some distance more, but the question is whether it's enough to go for upgrading to 2500C. E.g. if with 1500C and 7g kastmaster I could get around 50 m, but with 2500C it arrise to 55 m+ it's worth for me.

With original line carriage and pawl 2500C is giving quite a bit lot longer distance, with aluminium carriage and ceramic pawl the difference is much smaller. And for the lightest baits 1500C with aluminium carriage and ceramic pawl is getting the best distance of the two .
