$730 Usdm daiwa ct sv tw 70

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

$730 Usdm daiwa ct sv tw 70

Post by Nwlfish » Mon Jan 10, 2022 6:07 pm

Anyone tried this?

https://daiwa.us/collections/baitcastin ... -sv-tws-70

Have lost a few expensive baitcasters to the salt / have spent a ton of servicing so thinking about getting this for the 5 year free warranty and service

I wouldn't be buying a magnesium framed reel if your loosing reels to the salt. But with that said I still have my original saltwater reel that I started with when I went to dedicated saltwater combos which is daiwa tatula type r thats nearly 10 years old, what's causing you to loose reels to the salt? Personally I'd get one of the new Zillions and be done with it.

Also: what are you fishing for? The Steez CT SV is a great reel, but it’s small and finessy with a shallow spool. It doesn’t really scream “saltwater” to me, even if you’re perch fishing. I’d look at a Morethan PE TW or maybe the Steez HLC. Both are magsealed (even though neither comes with the service policy).

I fish inshore in the texas area (redfish flounder and trout). Currently using the metanium and aldebaran. 95% of the time am using 1/8oz lures.

Was thinking of the ct sv tw because it says saltwater capable in the description so was assuming salt damage if any would be covered by the warranty and 1 day turnaround service

I have this reel. I had to send it in for a repair last week coincidentally and I’m frankly not sure what’s up with it. Anyway, Ive enjoyed the reel. I primarily bass fish in FL, but take an inshore trip a couple times a year. For my purposes, this would be the last reel I’d think of for inshore. It’s tiny with a proportionally tiny spool. When I first took the spool out, I chuckled at how small it was. I’ll target cast relatively short distances in a mangrove now and again, but long casts are often needed frequently whether I’m fishing from a boat or fixed spot. There’s only so much 0.3 mm line you can get on there and I don’t think it’s enough.

Gotcha - what’s your take on the reel? Better than metanium / zillion? Similar?

It is hands-down the smoothest reel I've ever used, period. But it is very specialized, due to the low line capacity.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Bit random, but it's interesting the US pictures show hyperdrive, but the JDM version not.

It’s a fantastic reel. I thought it was too small initially for my liking. I’ve got big hands and I got the Japanese version. I put on a longer handle from a morethan and it’s been great. Another good reason to get the US version I suppose. I thought I would never need the warranty. I mean I have OG td-z’s going strong. Wouldn’t you know it, I had to send it in. Oh well; maybe I’ll reconsider the idea of a warranty in the future. Anyway; great reel for finnesy baits as other mentioned. But, also quite good with more typical weights of bass lures. I toss stuff up to 3/8 oz on it. It’s an absolute pleasure to fish. I miss it already. Not necessarily better than a zillion. I think the new zillion is just as smooth and in a weird way feels smoother, if that’s possible. Casting wise; meh. I can do the same with both other than the boost spool requires some more respect due to the faster start up. It’s definitely better than the old zillion tw in almost every way. Compared to OG zillion, it’s kind of impossible to compare. Like comparing a new corvette to a sweet truck from say the 90s. It fits in hand like nothing else though.

The US Steez CT SV TW 70 was just released in December 21. It has a 90mm handle, larger knobs, hyperdrive gears, and is covered under the 5 year executive service plan. The Tackle Trap will be certified very shortly for Steez CT and is already Exist LT certified.

I have one on a Steez Racing Design Hustler Technical Tune spooled with 14# Daiwa J-Fluoro Samurai. It's my go to Keitech tungsten casting jig rod for winter fishing. I fish 1/2 oz and make good distance casts with it no problem. It's not as finesse oriented as it appears. I have another on a Steez AGS 72M Moving Bait Versatile that I throw a lot of DT10, Evergreen Flat Force, and even Vision 110's. It's an absolute joy to fish and worthy of flagship status, but it is indeed an expensive reel.

I throw jerkbaits and blades on mine (I got the just-last-month-discontinued version). Caught a high 4/low 5 largemouth on a 3/8 Keitech jig on it this weekend and the handle size works for me. The reason it’s in the finesse corner for me is line capacity; throwing blades in 30 foot water earlier today, I could see the spool shine through (10lbs fluoro). I guess whenever I think saltwater, I’m never sure what I might hook into, and I’d want more line than on that spool. But if you were okay with the Aldebaran before, this one might not be an issue for you.

Superb reel. I have three of the US versions. No issues throwing “Normal” sized offerings.

Thanks all! In my area / style of fishing we typically fish 1-3 ft of water and at the deepest 10-15 ft. Will give this some thing. It’s a lot of money but the warranty and 1 day service is nice!

Very sick of paying $30 for labor and $45 for parts when I forget and leave my metanium/aldebaran in the garage

Is the '19 discontinued in Japan? I can't find an XH in stock overseas that is reasonably priced.
