Just saw daiwa tatula 80 video and im definitely going to be getting one for my spare rod. Also daiwa japan has some new stuff too that looks very interesting.
Re: Seriously still no news about new '22 reels?
Gonna have to hold off a second on my purchase if all that is coming... A new Bantam? A shallow Metanium (even more shallow than the current JDM version)? Also nice to see a new Aldebaran BFS coming.
I was really interested in getting a Conquest 100HG, but a shallow Metanium would fit my river finesse fishing perfectly...

Well it seems they might have added a main gear/shaft bearing. I know the same thing happened from the Curado 70-70MGL, think it is the one against the frame under the 2 screws holding the main shaft on. The old BFS/MGL Aldebaran had 10 total and this one moves up to 11. Not so sure about the 80mm handle, that is just tiny. I feel the 84mm are out dated, an 80mm would for sure be noticeable. I never had the first BFS Aldebaran so I don't know if the new 29mm spool is new, or if the capacities match. I really think it is a good idea to offer an extremely high gear ratio to accommodate the small spool, brings the IPT up to what you expect. This was an issue for the CT reels, a 7.2 Alphas CT barely recovered what a normal 6 ratio did.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 4:57 amLink to Aldebaran BFS info:

It looks like a minor refresh. They have to price it that high because it's their flagship product and competitor to the Stella. They can't have the Stella be priced higher or people will think the Stella is a better reel.

Looks like they gave the Bantam a new color and the MGL3 spool.

There's a new 32mm compact Tatula. Looks like they got it right. Mag dial is scrolled from the top. Compact and with a Steez/zillion like zero adjuster now instead of that gross silver thing in the Tatula 100. Reminds me of an Alphas TW if you took the old Alphas and made it 32mm long shaft TW reel instead of the Alphas TW we actually got which is very narrow and has a flat palming plate with the bottom mounted mag dial.
Re: Seriously still no news about new '22 reels?
I'm sure it will be amazing given the track record but I gotta laugh a bit at the looks. It looks like an Aliexpress reel mashup of Shimano and Daiwa design elements. Just look at that dial and center screw. Also sort of looks like a chipmunk that has been gorging on nuts and has packed its cheek pouches. Probably just the angle of the picture. The Steez CT looks like a weird space egg from the palming plate in some angles but is otherwise a fine looking reel.
Re: Seriously still no news about new '22 reels?
Was hoping the new Aldebaran had a Metanium or Bantam style brake adjustment. The new brake dial looks just like Lowrange said, aliexpress level stuff...
Just a brake dial that exposed in general is bad news.

I think the new bantam looks very promising, 35mm spool,19 wide...
Also the tatula 80, will it be a short spool shaft? Body very similar to alphas sv tw...

So after watching a few more videos...
I cannot tell what all they changed with the Bantam, colors for sure, added infinity drive, and now there are 6 brake pins. It almost looks a little bigger, maybe they moved the line guide forward some???
Still have not seen the shallow Metanium.
I did just see that they are going to have a Calcutta Conquest 200 in an XG model, that is pretty cool.

Bad news concerning the shallow Metanium. They went back to aluminum gears for some reason... Maybe they have improved them since the previous model issues, but why change it when the others seemed to be an improvement? Said it saved like 10 grams or so... I think they just use the Yumeya spool essentially.

I'm very surprised Shimano Japan has not come out with a Scorpion 70 MGL yet.

Yes, I think same of appearance of this reel.LowRange wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 6:00 amI'm sure it will be amazing given the track record but I gotta laugh a bit at the looks. But it seems 29 mm spool and they states that it can cast 1 g lure.
It looks very low sitting and good for palming. (Hopefully mag dial won't ruin it.)
I think it will be a good reel.
