Older Certates still worth it?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Older Certates still worth it?

Post by J_Source28 » Sun Jan 23, 2022 1:34 pm

Curious what your thoughts are on buying an older Certate vs. investing in one of the current spinning reels on the market. I'm looking at a Certate 2500r from 2004-2009, and also looking at a little bit of a newer model in the Certate 3012h from 2013-2016. I've found those models in the sub $300 category in excellent used condition.

What current retail market, sub $300 spinning models would you find worthy in choosing over (what seems to be) a highly respected reel in the Certate?

Thanks.

I ordered my 4th current model Certate two weeks ago via Japan Amazon. Had a chunk of Discover points. They are just phenomenal reels for the price. The older versions are nice, but not the same in my experience. I’d say $200 or less, otherwise watch for a good price around or under $400 for a current model.

Pretty sure you can get the current model for around $340 right now on one of the JDM sites. How do you access the Japanese Amazon???

Current Certate is hard to beat - a few bucks over your 300 budget but well worth it.

I searched Certate under our regular US Amazon and it gave me the option. Could be fake, too, but in researching other forums, the only down side is they don’t ship quick. I had $278 in points and they advertised a price of $402 shipped USD. I took a chance, lols!

This is where I was referring too, wasn't sure I could mention a rival JDM seller though. I was scared to mention the deal on the Conquest HG I wanted too, and of course now they are out of stock. No way I'd pay $500 US for one, I am sure they are worth it, but for what I get paid I have to cheapen up.

My Certate through Amazon showed up today. Legit 100%. Not bad for only $124 out of my pocket!!

That Digitaka price noted above, is the way to go. Those reels are worth every penny of that.

Great info, and definitely inspiring me to just go with the current model, though some of the older ones seem pretty sharp as well. I believe we are speaking of the 2019 LT in terms of the new Certate? Kinda struggling on what size to go with, I'm favoring the 3000xh, but it seems the 2500 may be a good option. I'll be mounting it on a MB Orochi Shakey head rod. Lots of Shakeyheads of course, but some darter heads, other small jigs and small swimbaits/hardbaits as well. Hoping to make it my do it all spinning combo. Might run straight fluoro. Sniper or Daiwa J-Samurai.

Pretty much same-same between the 2500 and 3000CXH. The 3000XH is a bigger frame, same as the 4000’s. More of a strength difference, IMO. For what you mentioned, I’d think a 2500 or 3000CXH would be what you’d want.

Go to the Amazon app. Click the three bars. Open settings. Change from English and USA to English and Japan. Most things will ship here. Some will not. Some good deals on there. I have had just about every Daiwa certate version. The new LT model is the way to go. Very smooth reel with a incredible drag.
