Metanium shallow edition, who plans to get one?
Metanium shallow edition, who plans to get one?
Looking at the specs on digitaka, 165g which is 5.82oz. The line capacity is 8lb at 100m. I had the Core 50 but couldn’t remember the exact line capacity but I think it’s close. I use a jdm Metanium for jerkbaits on a 7’2M 1st generation Adrena & have plenty line to spare. I bet this will be a awesome jerkbait reel, so I plan to get at least the HG model. Possibly a XG model once I see how the capacity is for my NRX+ 893 for shakyheads.

Think i will give one a try.It is supposed to have redesigned aluminum gears may be they got them right this time.If they don't a set of brass gears are cheap.

I think the big worry is the aluminum gears. I am not sure why they went and tried to save weight on a more proven Metanium 2020. There were quite a few horror stories on the aluminum micro module gears on here. It was a prevalent enough issue that TT had Curado K brass gear replacements for sale to solve the issue. I also know people said their Metanium 2016 gears held up fine. This all being said, hopefully a redesign helped and they are a bit tougher this time. I think the main issue is that they got geary or buzzy (generally lost smoothness), not major fails like chipped teeth and locking up level bad. Best of all, I agree with jigheadworm, just get another brass set of your shallow version has issues.Hennessy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 3:05 pmLooking at the specs on digitaka, 165g which is 5.82oz. I guess the japanese don't have the gear failures the angler in the states have? We lock down drag and winch in fish which I assume must not be something other markets do so the aluminum gears last longer.

so this would be what, a 70 size, or smaller?
Re: Metanium shallow edition, who plans to get one?
Yumeya makes a shallow spool for the Met.
Wonder if the new reel just has that spool and the alu gears.
Catalogue price has increased approx 2000-2500 jpy v standard met. I may just get the yumeya spool.

Looks like these reels are back in stock on digitaka for $293 RH models as of today, has anyone got their hands on one yet?
Re: Metanium shallow edition, who plans to get one?
I was very interested in this reel until I found out it had aluminum gears.

What uses would you all have for the Shallow Edition?
I am thinking for me, pitching plastics on a light Texas Rig. I'm sure enough 14lb line would fit for some pitching and short range casting.

I'm thinking the same thing I'd use the aldebaran mgl or steez ct for since they have similar capacity. Lighter weight pitching or maybe some power bfs type stuff on an ML rod.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 11:59 amWhat uses would you all have for the Shallow Edition?

I know the Aldebaran MGL, I was running out of line using 10lb flurocarbon. I hope the Shallow Edition isn't the same deal.ss30378 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 1:54 pmI'm thinking the same thing I'd use the aldebaran mgl or steez ct for since they have similar capacity. Waste of money. Get yourself a custom shalow spool, and it will perform better and cost much much less.
