2005 Daiwa TD Sol Baitcast Reel Question

Post by Ghost » Wed Mar 09, 2022 7:54 pm

Is the USDM Sol baitcast reel, which frame is it similar to from back then; Japanese version. The Pixy or Alpha?

I'm looking to get a shallow spool for my Sol to make it a BFS reel. I may have to get one from Aliexpress, if I know which model and spool is needed.

The Sol is the US version of the purple Alphas with brass gear

Depends on what you want to cast. I would think the Ray's Studio DIY spool for the Alphas is a good spool. I have one and it's been great. Its a little line capacity challenged for baits in the 3/8 oz total weight range but moving down to a small braid solves that. Its really good for 1/8 to 1/4 total weight. The spools are on Aliexpress for $53. Ebay sellers also have them but they are charging $20 more.

If you can find some Alphas 7.2 brass gears too then swap those in. Those gears are butter and in the ballpark in smoothness with some of the smoothness reels in existence.

Aliexpress listings are sometimes "lost in translation". The spool you need is a 33mm diameter.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
