Anyone have some time on the new Alphas 800

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Over time, i wonder if this Alphas will become more of a fan fav than the OG version.
It can be but the Alphas SV TW doesn’t have the look and color. It is more comfortable and a little bit better in casting lighter lure but after I add sv105 spool into Daiwa 103, it is gonna be hard to beat.😁😁😁
I wish this alphas 800s come with different color scheme and original dial like the Tatula.

Got a few months on mine and I'm absolutely loving it. Only small issue I've had is because of the brake dial location I kept accidentally increasing the brake dial with my index finger, I've adjusted my grip and it's all good now. Yeah it's king of boring and generic looking, doesn't bother me one bit though, so are most shimanos, style comes in a very very far second to functionality in my book.

Yea, they need to add some colors to these. Give me a yellow one with two black stripes like the Z2020 from deps. Maybe even some color changing paint like what abu has on a few reels. This incredibly boring silver that they have on most daiwa reels is good for those who use their reel as a tool. I want it to be like a gem, not a tool 8-)

True that, I actually owned 3 Alphas 800 (sold one to make room for 800S, swapped zillion aluminum gear on another one which will eventually end up in 800s for ultimate finesse). I used to be Shimano Fanboys and this alphas reminds me of old favorite Curado 70 both size and look. I sold most of my Curado 70 (4) and will get more alphas or even Tatula TW80.

Yup getting bored with all the silver as well.

Something I have noticed concerning the Alphas SVTW vs the new Zillion... the top panel on the Zillion feels plastic like and loose to me. It isn't bad loose, but with the right jiggle you can feel it. The Alphas is much sturdier there, on the crossmember that protects the T-wing. The clicking drag and 90mm handle are the main features that make the Zillion standout for me, if not for those, the Alphas is superior for my fishing needs.

The top panel is plastic on the new Zillion much like the Z200/2020

It shouldn’t be long before 90mm handle of Tatula tw80 can be ordered. Clicking drag on alphas is easy upgrade too. I swapped mine with zillion JDM because I want brass gear on zillion.

You’re so right. I just put a Z200 back together too. ](*,)

Is that purple Amo spool usable in the Zillion? That spool needs strong magnets or smooth casts to work. I found it too wild for my reels.

Yea, i saw a guy on youtube who stripped the original paint and mirror polished it. The reel looks so much nicer than original.

Somewhat usable, I have to adjust the dial to 10 (boost spool at 4-6) and not very controllable in windy, typical of linear mag brake I guess. I use this spool for medium duty 10lb hybrid which work quite well, stock spool load with 15lb FC just for jig. This evening catch to test out alphas brass gear.
