Daiwa BBS
Re: Daiwa BBS
I know of a couple of peeps that still use the 5.7 gearing for cranking and slow-rolling/standard retrieve of 3/8-1oz spinnerbaits, and for other TDZ 6.3 type techs after they have swap out the gears (RH). There are also better spool swaps available, including the OG Zillion/TD Fuego 36 mm and TDZ US Trail and AMO 36 mm spools.
There are those that like the color scheme and drilled holes on top of the frame versus say a standard silver-gray of the OG TDZ.
I like the 5.7 gear ratio + 36mm spool with thicker lines like 15 CXX. The gear ratio is excellent to keep from overworking big wake baits like a full sized Buzzjet and 110 Whopper Plopper or for slow rolling single bladed spinnerbaits and most cranking duties in general.

That’s good to know
I recently saw one for sale but it was rather high. I wondered how it would perform with a 100M spool in it ? And maybe add a better looking power handle. I remember the days when the BBS was a highly sought after reel
And prices where decent. The one I saw wanted 38,000y and I thought that was high. Still I’ve not done a BBS project and may need to get one under my belt

Re: Daiwa BBS
If you ask and shop around you should be able to find a nice clean specimen for under $200...IMO.
Also, the internals of the BBS is slightly more stout than the US Trail and other TDZs, ChuckE had a detailed write-up back in the day on this internals, but post was lost in one of the epic TT server crashes.
IIRC, the yoke, springs, gears are slightly more stout than the 5.7 US Trail.

Hey, that top one looks familiar.....
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Yeah John, a pimped out BBS is going to eventually find its way back into my arsenal one of these days. You and Tim have put together some badass BBS reels.

Re: Daiwa BBS
Did you mod the drive shaft to fit the Steez type bolt? Also who makes that star drag and the bolt retainer screw on your BBS?
