Bfs reel

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Post by Steven100 » Thu Jun 30, 2022 12:21 am

I m in the market for a bfs Reel. Want to throw 7 gr. Wonder what to buy. Doubt about the new aldebaran 2022 or the conquest bfs. I have the Daiwa ss air but I want something new :D
I also have the Daiwa millionaire sv but is too heavy. Wonder if you have some idea s
Thanks Grt Steven

Whichever BFS reel casts good 7 gr. Take what you want. But don't choose Daiwa GekkaBijin Air, because line capacity of it is most restricted. 7 gr is a little heavy for true finesse. Maybe power finesse reel: Daiwa Steez ct? It has good line capacity and it's light and small and versatile.

How well does that Millionaire cast lighter lures? Also I have to agree, a true BFS reel will BOMB a 7 gram lure. Might be better off with a semi finesse reel.

The new Zillion will throw 7 gram lures as far as I'd ever need. But, if you like true BFS reels and like to use light braid and/or are making short accurate casts around cover with flouro or mono, the Alphas Air TW would serve you very well with 7 gram lures.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Great with the roro spool. But heavy.
I go for the zillion HD I think

Any of the newer reels will cast 7g (1/4oz) with ease. The curado 150 will cast 5g no issues using 10lb mono. The millionaire ct will go down under 4g with the stock spool using 6lb mono with a rod that loads at that weight. I would say the new zillion, alphas or steez ct would be excellent if you are looking to stick with daiwa, the metanium and conquest would be great from shimano but the conquest is a bit heavier.

As the others have said, any BFS reel can handle 7g with ease! My BFS fishing is mostly neds and 2.4 Dark Sleeper. I fish mostly 8lb fluoro for both. The river has rock shelves everywhere, so 6lb gets cut too easy. The neds depending on the head weight go up to about 7g total(bait and jighead). I enjoy throwing even 7g neds on BFS.

I have Scoprion BFS, 16 Aldebaran BFS, and Conquest BFS. The Conquest is the absolute most satisfying reel. The feel of it, whether palming or actually fishing it, just has that "it" factor.

If you have the funds, highly consider the Conquest BFS. When Shimano stops production, I think the chances are high that it will be one of those sought after classics.

There is a new Alphas variant due out sometime in July. The shallow spool 800S which should work in that power finesse category.
