I have been a Daiwa fan for a long time but my love of old ABU round reels has been rekindled recently with my father passing onto to me a 6500C that I bought for him 28 years ago. That reel is in mint condition and i Have since tuned it with dual bearing level wind worm, dual bearing idler cog, ceramic hybrid spool bearings, carbontex drag, and added a IAR bearing, plus a gomexus handle. I have since found and purchased but waiting on delivery a UC5600C ultracast and a 5600CI for future projects.
I have never dabbled with any of the smaller reels. 4600 is the smallest i have used in the ABU range. When i was a young bloke I use to drool over the Black Max and Silver Max series when they came out,but were out of my price range at the time.
There is still something about a made in Sweden ABU that modern reels just don't have. I cant place it but maybe its the nostalgia and the fact they have stood the test of time and haven't changed a great deal and parts are still available, where as Daiwa and Shimano stop making parts for reels over 10 year old

To the OP, his reel is sweet and knowing him personally, I bet his new addition will keep him away from the water for just a little!

If you are all into smaller Abu reels, check out the Small Ambassadeurs book.
