Need Help Deciding- Daiwa Tatula SV 70 OR Daiwa Tatula 80
Any ya'll own either reel? Does the SV spool make that much of a difference? The Tatula 80 seems to hold just a bit more line than the Tatula SV 70. And weight of both reels are the same. Is one better at paling than the other?
From the 2 Tatulas, which of the 2 is comparable to the Shimano Metanium MGL?

I've fished with a new Tatula 80 for the last week. It's mounted on a Rebellion MH/Fast running a full spool of McCoy 12lb. Ext. Clear Copoly. Before I comment on my thoughts of it, please be aware that if you cut me, I will bleed Shimano Blue.
I think it's a fantastic little reel, smooth, casts great, accurate, not fussy, looks good etc., etc.. From 1/4-1/2oz. Spinnerbaits, 3/8-5/8oz. Jigs, 1/4-1/2oz. Squarebills, 1/4-5/8oz. Lipless, big Spooks, I never made a change to my settings. I could have got a bit more distance with some, but removing spool side to side and putting the dial on 10 it was not fussy at all, I just let her rip. I do have 2 new Zillions and a Tat Limited and that 80 is everything that they are, just the guys at the ramp won't swoon over a Tatula like they will a Zillion, Alphas, or Steez. What's even better, I paid $115 for it and I'd gladly buy another. Brian.

For me skipping would be the deciding factor. If the reel was going on a plastics rod then I'd get the 70 SV. Of it was going to throw small cranks and moving baits then I'd opt for the 80.

The 70 and 80 are built on the same frame, and they are very compact reels. I have the Alphas SV TW and I really can't tell a difference between the 2 reels if I close my eyes. I haven't tried skipping with the Tatula, but that's not what I bought it for. I really believe it is the best deal going right now at around $130 shipped from digitaka.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I have both and the 70 will cast lighter baits a bit farther, but the 80 with the slighter larger spool would be my preference for conventional bass sized baits. Both reels are very controllable and I find myself casting both with the brakes set at 2 to 3 on the dial. I am using light braid, usually 16 pound Sunline, and casting small tubes with an 1/8 head up to 3/16 ounce finesse jigs.
Because the reels have an aluminum sideplate I find them to feel stronger than the size would indicate. Great reels

The tat 80 is pretty loud. Will switching out the bearings help?
Re: Need Help Deciding- Daiwa Tatula SV 70 OR Daiwa Tatula 80
Heard of a couple of people that needed to replace their spool bearings right out of the box as the stock ones in the 80 were squeaky garbage.
Re: Need Help Deciding- Daiwa Tatula SV 70 OR Daiwa Tatula 80
nah that didn't work. made it slightly quieter but nothing like the '24 tw 100 which is an amazing reel
New update: After adding a tiny drop of oil on both ends of the spool shaft, the noise is completely gone. Just as quiet as the tw 100 now.

Unsure why but I've read from more than a few people of them being very dry out of the box (as was mine), a quick oil and grease job and mine is still silky smooth after a year, only my zillion is smoother.

My 2nd. 80 was loud on the cast. I cleaned the bearings and reoiled them and it helped a bit. I eventually just changed both 80's over to Hedgehog HD's. Brian.

Good deal on oiling the spool shafts.

Initially, I found the sound of the TW 80 quite bothersome, as I had never encountered a NIB reel that was as loud. My first instinct was to assume it might be due to a dry or faulty bearing but when that didn't solve the problem, I contemplated selling it. Despite my initial skepticism about a dry spool shaft being the issue, I'm glad that solved the issue because with a Rays Studio BFS spool installed, it has proven to be an impressive performer.dragon1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:03 amGood deal on oiling the spool shafts.

The thing about oil on the spool shaft is too much will dramatically slow down the spool casting performance...this is very true with Shimanos, so I imagine it would be the same with the Tat 80.Chode wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:35 pmInitially, I found the sound of the TW 80 quite bothersome, as I had never encountered a NIB reel that was as loud.
