BFS Reels
How do these Daiwa BFS reels compare? I don't understand the differences and where one would be preferred. Just looking for an all around BFS baitcaster

Re: BFS Reels
Alphas (I am assuming you are talking of the Alphas AIR TW): All around decent BFS reel. Offered in a couple gear ratios as well. I'd personally go with either the Gekkabijin AIR TW or Silver Creek AIR TW depending on your needs.
SS AIR: I really like this reel. The spool is 32mm in diameter vs the 28mm the new Daiwa BFS reels have. This leads to a little more versatility for open water fishing. Does bass fishing well and can handle some panfish/trout as well.
SV Light: Basically a slightly deeper spool version of the SS AIR. Cosmetic differences as well. The main gear is also upgraded to a brass/aluminum hybrid. Probably the "BFS" reel I regret selling the most. This is a good choice if you are using finesse bass lures and use either braided line or, FC 10lb and under. If going short range, could up the line to 12-14lb FC and do some light finesse flipping duties (1/16oz weight plus plastic)

Re: BFS Reels
I still have and love love love my SS Air. Its built on the OG Steez platform, as is the SV Light. I sold my SV Light only because of overlap/redundancy. Still a great reel. I also have the Alphas Air TW. It is a much smaller reel than either of the the other mentioned. It will do down to 2 grams with the right rod. I love that one, too. I also have the Gekkabijin Air TW, but can't speak about the stock spool. I put a deep Ray's Studio spool in mine as soon as I got it. In that configuration, it's my favorite power finesse reel ever, period.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Sounds like the Get-yer-bitchin' is a helluva reel.

What line are you running with the Ray's Studio spool in the Gek? And what weight lures are you throwing?hoohoorjoo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 5:45 pmI put a deep Ray's Studio spool in mine as soon as I got it. In that configuration, it's my favorite power finesse reel ever, period.

Re: BFS Reels
I have power pro ss8 v2 in 15# test on the Gekkabijin. It's what I had on hand, but not my favorite braid(I'll put some 15# x9 braid on it soon). I throw 1/8 spinnerbaits + 3" curly tail grubs, 1/8 micro chatterbaits with the same trailer, 1/8 ballhead jig with 2.75" rage swimmers, etc. I have also thrown up to a 1/4 squadron swimbait jighead with 4" paddletails. I think thhe reel is as near to perfect as I'll find, at least for my preference cesand fishing style.reason162 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:44 pmWhat line are you running with the Ray's Studio spool in the Gek?
