Metanium DC not picking up line

Post by green weenie » Sat Jan 28, 2023 6:49 pm

Hi tackle monkeys!

I have a metanium DC that will not pick up line. It’s like the drag is completely unset even when it’s tightened all the way down. It will pick up line of there is no pressure on the line and I mean zero pressure. Any pressure at all only the handle turns( smoothly by the way. What say you? What am
I missing, what can I do or where can it go?

Wes

What line is spooled on the reel and how it it anchored on the spool?

It is PE but the spool is not spinning under the line. That’s something I could check and did. Thanks for asking and making sure I didn’t miss the obvious. :)

Did you take this reel apart and then put it back together or did you receive it in this condition?

Does the clutch go all the way up - another thing is to take the spool out and see if the pinion moves up and down inside the bearing (seated in the frame).

Yes, and as silly as it may seem, is there a spool pin on the shaft?

No worries hopefully we can help figure it out.

Palm the reel and press your thumb onto the rim of the spool while turning the handle. You may find that the spool is indeed turning with the handle and that your line is slipping on the spool.

 :^o ](*,)

Well I rechecked and it does appear to be moving when I thumb pressure the braid and turn the handle. It’s hard to tell but I think it does. DUH!

I fully confirm later when I have more time but that looks like the culprit.

Thanks all for restating the obvious. I’m Mr Obvious today!
