2021 Daiwa Zillion SV TW
2021 Daiwa Zillion SV TW
I'm looking for any feedback on the 2021 Zillion. I'm interested in purchasing this reel and pairing it with an NRX MBR 844C. There seems to be a consensus that these Daiwa reels don't handle leader to braid very well. I would be using 30 lb braid with a 15 lb flurocarbon leader. I tie an FG knot. I've never fished the Daiwa's with the T wing system. I currently own all Shimanos. Looking for anglers who have experience with these reels and if this reel performs capably with a leader to braid setup? Thank you in advance!

I think the issues arise with the leader knot going through the T-wing. Just run a leader that doesn't pass through the T-wing and you should be fine.

I had a whole bunch of 20Mets. Posted lots of information on here about them. Loved them.
I now have zero Shimanos and all Zillions, Steez, Airs, etc.
Until Shimano fixes their MM gears, it’ll be a while before I own another one.
You won’t be disappointed with the Zillion.

I too have both but I would give the nod to the Shimano. It just feels like a piece of art. The Zillion is very nice, just not on the same level. I would compare the Zillion more to the Shimano Chronarch. My 2 cents.

Great reel for sure. I have been wanting to try something different and enjoy a variety of reels, but would be fine if I had all new Zillions, even as finesse reels. The only things the new Zillion would not excel at would be true big baits and true BFS style baits.
Not only do you get a very smooth, powerful, comfortable, easy to use reel, but you also get 1016 spool compatibility so if you want to tune the new Zillion you can.
The only negatives I could conceive for the new Zillion are its plastic top piece and the paint job. The paint shows scratches and gets scratches pretty easily. The top plastic piece is a small gripe, mine seems to have a tiny, tiny bit of wiggle.

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: 2021 Daiwa Zillion SV TW
I have not noticed an issue with knots on my Zillion but I rarely use a leader longer than 6'. To me the 21 Zillion is about the best all around reel to come out since the introduction of the Curado B. If I had to choose one reel to fish with this would be it.
Re: 2021 Daiwa Zillion SV TW
No reason to skip on this best bang for buck reel just because the knot might have issues going through the line guide. I personally never use leaders over about a meter long, so have no idea if it could be an issue.

Thank you for the responses! I already have a couple 2020 Metaniums, Chronarchs, Curados and Scorpions. Never owned a Daiwa but I think I'm going to purchase it! I might just spool with Flurocarbon! I fish a clear reservoir up here in the Northeast so if I use braid I generally go with a longer leader!
Re: 2021 Daiwa Zillion SV TW
Make sure that you have at least 10-15 yards more than you can cast on your longest. If you run braid backing, use a very thin braid and take time to tie the smallest/slimmest connect knot, like an FG. I am actually getting into my Alberto connection knot now on a long cast with my 19 Morethan PE SV (with OG Steez Type R+ spool) using 14lb Suffix Siege. I may tie an FG connect next time for better passing through the narrow T-Wing slot.Dman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 4:04 pmThank you for the responses! When I think of clear reservoir in the North East Quabbin comes to mind.
Re: 2021 Daiwa Zillion SV TW
I'm in the process of converting everything over to the 21 Daiwa Zillion SV TW. I have Chronarch 100D7s, Curado 50Es, Curado MGL 150s, and Bantam MGL As--I really prefer the Zillion over all of these.

Love my Zillions!

I have a Zillion on an IMX-Pro and GLX 844 MBR. Two of my favorite combos. Great for tons of applications.Dman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 6:19 pmI'm looking for any feedback on the 2021 Zillion.
