PX68R uses

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

PX68R uses

I just bought a lightly used PX68R with Hedgehog Air bearings and was wondering what you all use your PX68 for.

I don't have one anymore but, It is a pretty versatile finesse reel. Does anything from finesse soft plastics up to small squarebills.

The PX68 does have a better drag than the original Pixy so, no need to upgrade that.

I was thinking about putting it on my Tatula Elite 6'9 ML with 6lb Hybrid for the summer to throw the Karashi and other handbaits up to about 3/8 and down to about 3/16. Sound like I am on the right track?

I had mine on a Gen1 Phenix 7'3" ML Maxim spooled with 10lb braid / 6-8lb leader.

I fished neds with it, for the few weeks that I was infatuated.

I also have a 7'6 L Kuying Leadership that I have an Alphas CT SV 7.2 on with 8lb Seaguar R18 on. This is my small jig/plastics rod.

I have an omega modded red+yellow pixy mix, not the PX68. Usually using it with 15lb Berkley X9, which is good for pretty much any light duty. My fav setup for walleye and jerkbaits.

I've been running some 20lb Smackdown on an Alphas CT SV and don't mind it. It's been pretty nice to use. I use a leader depending on what I'm doing with it.

I didn't really find it all that great for finesse myself. Quarter ounce on up to 5/8 oz seemed to be it's wheel house in stock form.

Have a PX68L on a Croix LTB68MLXF. Shakey heads.

I'm with Mark, I loved it for 1/4 to 1/2 oz with 20# Berkley X9.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

This is what I will be using it for most likely.

i have that reel and the airy red and the ptxr
Lately i have been using the line above and I tell you that after using it in an out in 8lb test i came home to order more spools
The reel is a very versatile reel but the rod is key to optimizing the reels potential

As it will be used for topwater as well as jerks and shallow cranking, it'll get either 6 or 8lb Hybrid for the summer and then 8lb fluoro in winter for jerking. It's going on my Tatula Elite 6'9 ML.

Love the reel but to me it really doesn't have a finesse spool. I use my PXR for 1/2oz jerkbait and it bombs them. Or you can run some thin 40lb YGK line on it and the reel can do many things great in 1/4 - 5/8oz. The spool is fast and one of the best for distance. The reel may not be for everyone but once you find what it's great for then you'll know it's one of the best ever. It would cost much more building a pixy to the PXR level than buying a clean used one.

Well, I just spooled it with 6lb Hybrid. It'll go fishing tomorrow probably. Thinking it will make a great popper, jerkbait and small topwater reel. I'm thinking anything from a Pop X to a Raid Level Minnow and Giant Dog X.
