Does PLine CXX float

Post by FishEastCarolina » Tue Mar 31, 2020 5:28 am

I have not found any info on the p-line website about this. Does the CXX line float? I use the CX flourocarbon Coates for my shaky heads and jerkbaits but was going to to grab a spool of the CXX for topwater leader. Can anyone shed some light on this?

CXX will float until the surface tension is broken, then it sinks.
It is not inherently buoyant.

I’m curious as to why you don’t want to use CX for your leader.
It is much thinner than CXX for any given pound test, and you
probably don’t need the abrasion resistance of CXX since you’re
talking topwater.

I think the CX sinks, due to the fluorocarbon coating

I tried CXX for float fishing steelhead and it definitely does not float. It’s pretty close to fluoro, IMO, in that regard. If you add fly floatant or silicone grease, it will float decent. CXX has some of least amount of shock stretch in a copolymer/mono, I’ve ever fished. Very abrasion resistant as well, getting close to quality fluoro.

Sufix Advance mono settles in the surface the same way CXX does, I grease it up and it floats all day decent enough to enjoy the rest of its properties. In case you wanted another suggestion to try. Less abrasion resistant, but far more manageable.

The CX and CXX are going to sink at about the same rate as most monos.

For a floating mono, I'd look at the new P-line Topwater or discontinued Ironsilk.

The old Ironsilk does not absorb water at the same rate as traditional mono so it sinks slower. I suspect P-line Topwater is similar in this regard.
