JDM Seaguar

Post by DirtyD64 » Sun Jul 25, 2021 6:45 am

I am getting ready to order a reel from a Japan dealer, was adding some extras to the cart when I started looking at lines. I love the Sunline BMS but figured I would check Seguar out too. They have an R18 Fluoro Ltd that is about $18 for 100m, not sure how good it is though. They also have an R18 Bass and R18 Hunter. Has anyone fished JDM Seaguar? Have any other JDM line suggestions?

What started this is the R18 Ltd looks to have a golden tint to it... I remember someone saying a classic seguar had a gold tint and was one of the best yet original fluoros made. I really prefer HiSeas Quattro to all, but Sunline BMS has grown on me and all Seguar fluoro has been a good choice.

The ltd is Tatsu, but comes in odd # sizes. I always pick up a spool of 5lb when I order anything from jpn.

When I fish with fluoro it is always Seaguar Japan.
R18 Ltd equals to Tatsu.
R18 Bass equals to InvizX
Colors are identical to US models.

Hello, Friend!
Last year and this season i usung R18 Bass (16 Lb) and INVIZX (15 Lb) for 110-130 mm minnows and vibs on M(MH) rods.

I prefer INVIZX if i must choose from this 2 fluo models. I think R18 more tougher.

Another one model, which i like is Sniper Invisible 14 Lb, but its Sunline, not Seaguar fluo.

What's the stretch like with the Quattro? I've used more fluorocarbon lines than I care to mention. Best I've found and what I stick with is Gamma Touch for light line, a Sunline Assassin for heavier line. I read up a bit on the Quattro. People compare it to Invizx, but say it handles even better. So I assume it has some stretch to it.

Quattro is a pretty damn good line for me. Honestly, it probably isn't Tatsu/Shooter/Gamma level, but it is up there. I have not tried gamma. Quattro is overly thick though so it seems way stouter and more memory filled than it really is. Quattro 12lb is like FC Sniper 14-16lb. I am about to upload some pics, caught around a 31inch walleye today on 10lb Quattro.

Thanks a lot for info, I love the Sunline Camo FC sniper. I use 14lb on my Chronarch MGL with a 7'6"mh rod. The BMS Sunline handles almost identically but with pink and orange rather than green shades...

Like others have said, the R18 Ltd is basically Tatsu.

I recommend picking up R18 HARD. It’s something very special in the Seaguar lineup, same method of construction as Tatsu but the hardness of shell and core are bumped up making it lower stretch and higher sensitivity. Ive used both the 7# and 20# for a few years now. If you compare diameters apples to apples (actually measure them, don’t just trust the label) with many many other options the R18 Hard is quite impressive.
