This past season, I used 15.1 lb Damyl Tectan on one
of my outfits. Its diameter (.01175 in.) is about the
same or less than that of many 10 lb. test copolymers or
nylon monofilaments. This small diameter, low stretch,
and abrasion resistance make it an outstanding option
in my opinion. I would have a hard time arguing that
it is not one of the best fishing lines on the market, and
I wish Tackle Warehouse carried it.

I knew decades ago that Tectan had unusually high break strength for its diameter, but never read of it being abrasion resistant (and don't recall claims by the manufacturer to that effect). May I ask what experiences you have had with it that have led you to attribute that property to it?

I used it for deep crankbaits on the Niagara River
over very rocky bottoms, which usually is very
tough on lines. I never lost a lure or fish (smallmouth)
due to line breakage all season. Sure, I retied when
I felt any roughness, but it didn’t seem that I retied
as often as I usually did.

I’m sure that part of the reason for my my success with
this line is its great strength. If a nick or abrasion in
the line reduces its strength by one-third, I’m still fishing
with the equivalent of 10 lb. test.
