Understanding it probably changes depending on your application, given the choice though, what is your primary setup?

Straight FC for panfish and most bass fishing. Braid when needed (frogging and such).

Mono for trout streams most times. Braid with glass rods given the situation

I have braid to leader on pretty much all my outfits, but am trying straight fluoro on 1 setup to try it out.

Various co-polymers on different outfits
for different applications/situations,
plus flourocarbon (with mono leader) for
Carolina rigs.

Braid + leader or various mono/copoly/fluoro for nearly everything, from BFS, trout/panfish, all around bass techs.

CXX for spinnerbaits, chatters, some topwaters, shallow-mid cranks. Sometimes will toss Yozuri 12lb for all-purpose moving techs, and also 15lb Defier for cranks and topwaters.

Straight fluoro on most of my setups. I use braid to fluoro on my spinning setups and have tried it on some baitcast setups but I just hate that leader knot going through my guides. I do use braid with a short leader of mono for some topwater fishing to keep the line from fouling often, but it's a short enough leader in which the knot only occasionally goes into the tip.

Mostly straight braid as the line lasts so long that I rarely need to change line.
If not straight braid then I use straight mono or straight FC.

With the exception of frogs, all casting gear is mono or floro or copoly only with none of this braid to a leader crap.

For spinning I much prefer braid to a leader for casting and line management. Some of mine have mono or floro but not many.

56 current rod/reel combos.

aside from the wire, leadcore, and copper combo's, it appears 49 of my combo's are braid. A few of them have 50lbs, and the rest have 30lbs braid.

thank god for bulk spools.

I run straight braid on my frogs, poppers, spinner baits and jerk baits...all other setups get a flouro lead. 20lbs flouro until things get thick, then move to 25lbs flouro leads.

Primarily a shore-bound saltwater bay angler (do fish the surf on occasion). Have refined my line approach to braid to fluoro. Works perfectly fine as there's not a lot of hazardous structure where I am, so I can go extremely light. 6-12lb braid to 6-10lb fluoro (~5' fluoro lead). Largest "fish" landed on this was ~60lb (bat ray), was snagged but still a memorable fight.

Only throw horizontal stuff so braid for cast distance, fluoro for abrasion. Light metals (irons, spoons, spinners, etc.) and hardbaits (jerks, cranks, tops) from 5g-12g (lost interest in soft plastics long ago).

The lighter the better so spinning for me because quality of life in heavy wind and low light.

I'm just particular.

I am Braid + mono

Use Berkley big game attached to several different braids Daiwa Samurai, Yo-zuri, and Berkley (x9)
I find mono predictable in it characteristics and visually able to know when it needs to be changed.
Mono has good shock absorption.
Lastly I can tie strong simple connection knots to lure.

Cheers
Trevor

Braid with a fluoro leader 90% of the time. Sufix832 was my main brain for the longest of time, but since last year, i think i finally found something i prefer over it, the Berkley X9.

X2. I'm mainly a CXX man, with fluoro on a few j/w rods.

I picked straight fluoro only because it's on the rod that spends the most time in my hands which is my mh/f jiggin n riggin rod, but I have 5 current main rigs with a variety of different lines on them; another shorter mh/f casting rod with braid for topwater stuff, a medium/fast all-purpose casting rod with copoly, and two spinning outfits that both run braid to leader.
