7' spinning rod advise again!

Post by sunnyjim » Mon Feb 26, 2007 4:43 am

I need a rod to pair with a 2500 stratic and 15 lb power pro. I will be throwing light stuff mostly[3" flukes with little or no weight, tubes on 1/16 or 1/8 oz heads, and 4" lizards] but want a rod that can also fish a slightly heavier soft plastic if needed[like a 6" lizard or8"worm with 1/4oz weight. Am I asking to much of one rod or is there one that can do this all? Either way I need a long rod 1 or 2 piece for long casts with light lures . Price range under 200 as far as possible! Thank you for any advise. :)

One that comes to mind is a 7' med Fenwick HMG at the $120.00 mark. It's not the most sensitive rod out there, but it will job done.
Also look into the St. Croix AS70MHF for the upper end of your $200.00. Great rods with excellent sensitivity.

Eh, you might be pushing too wide a range of applications there. For under $200, you can likely get 2 rods for the applications you mention.

I use a BPS Extreme 7' MH spinning rod with Stradic 2500 for Senkos, Ikas, flukes and T-rigs. It would likely be too heavy for 1/8 and 1/16 shakey heads. But you can get a M and a MH for under $200. Similar Bionic Blades are also an option, and cheaper.

i agree the bps extreme and bionic blades are nice rods
i have used both with great success
but most people in this forum op out for slightly higher end
and more sensitive rods

St. Croix 70MLF. Pick your graphite.

I recommend lighter rods for true 1/16 ounce work but for stuff in the 1/8 - 3/8 ounce range, the 70MLF will do a great job.

I have a 7' shimano compre M action paired with my shimano stradic 2500 and it works well for me.

I agree with Mattman, the 7' MLF St. Croix will treat you well. I love the Avid series at about $150 to $160.

Thank you for all your thoughts, but I have had a change of heart and decided to spend 80-100 on this rod. So its either BPS extreme or st.croix premier! Any help!

Go St Croix...or find a deal on a Falcon.
