swim jig weight for deeper water
swim jig weight for deeper water
I'm thinking of trying swim jigs in the 8 to 12 ft depth range. What weight do you guys use in those depths?

I use 1/2 and 5/8, work okay-bought some 3/4 that I have not used yet. I use these in thick grass and strong current.

Most of my swimjigs are 3/8oz, I find this lets me fish the 3' to 8' zone really well but any deeper than 10' I'll use a 1/2oz.

i use a 3/8 in water 8 ft. unless im fishing deeper water 15ft or more than i'll fish a half oz

Slower steady retrieve... 3/8 on flouro should do the trick up to 12 feet.
1/2 if your speeding your presentation up a bit or fishing mono/braid.
With either, keep in mind that the trailer you use can effect the rate of fall too.

In my experience other baits work better for deeper water.

I use 3/4 oz. with great success, I also use a plastic craw bait that floats upward.
I also use the lift and drop or stroke the jig upward off the bottom.
