Dice Rubber

Post by Bbrotz » Wed May 18, 2022 6:20 am

I seen these in a Japanese video a while back and thought they looked pretty interesting, but I forgot about them until recently when Osp made their own version. Well I couldn’t bring myself to pay $15 for 4 of those things so I made a few myself to test out. I took a senko and cut it up into pieces, and then took strands from a jig skirt and used a sewing needle to pull them through. I’ll test them out and let you guys know how they work. Just thought I would share if anyone wants to make a few of their own.

I ended up trying out the baits I made last week. I threw them on my tenryu Lunakia 6’10 which makes a bluegill feel like a big fish. Well on my second cast I let it sink for a few seconds and gave it a couple twitches when a 3 and a half pounder came out from under the dock and inhaled it. Right when I put a hook in her she went straight for the dock and was rubbing my line on the dock post, I thought I was screwed since I was using 2lb test. I palmed the spool and locked down the drag just long enough to get her head turned and then guided her into deeper water. By the time I landed her my line was completely shredded. I guess that goes to show how strong 2lb izorline is.

I only had time to fish for 15 minutes that day, so that was my only catch. But it was definitely one of the funnest fights I’ve had in a while. I think these baits have some potential, gives the fish something they’ve never seen before.

I honestly didn’t think anything big would eat this bait so I threw it on my ultralight to have some fun. I’ll be throwing it on some heavier gear next time lol

I got 1 of each style, the floating and the sinking. I've not thrown the sinking yet. The floating is interesting, I did catch a couple little bass on it, but by golly are they bluegill magnets. They hold up to abuse better than expected too. It was pretty rapid-fire action, pretty much bites on every cast. But for sure panfish attractant. Fun little deal.
