Help for Vanford Series Chose

Post by Farooq » Wed Jun 22, 2022 2:43 pm

Hello ladies and gentleman's!

I have a big and important question, about a Vanford series..
Im going to buy Shimano 20 Zodias 264UL-2 - 193cm 2-7g, ill use the rod in Freshwater, and maybe sometimes in Saltwater(this will be very rare, maybe once a year), im gonna use the rod for mullet, pike, perch and etc fishy, sorry but im not from USA, im in middle Europe, hope this is not a issue.
So basicaly im looking for tips and suggestion on which Vanford should i pick, which will match perfect with the Zodias rod, which reel will match perfect with the weight of the rod+vanford reel.

I have options between those series:
Vanford 1000F (2020)
Vanford 2500F (2021)
Vanford 2500 HG F (2020)
Vanford C 3000 F

those are the 4 options that i have to order in my country, so im really looking for a help ASAP, because i want to order soon.
really thanks for the help <3

Personally I would pick the 1000 series as it fills the role from ultralight to light rods. The 2500-3000 share the same reel spool diameter so line flow would be basically the same when full. The reel frame is larger and stronger and have stronger drag force too. They are the most universal sized reel and can perform most techniques for most freshwater fishing styles.

So as i see people recommend me, 1000F / 2500HG F / 2500F, ill use it mainly for UL fishing with the Shimano Zodias or Savage Gear SG2 1-5g UL, for those fish - mullet, pike, perch, maybe for pike the rods wont be good enough if it come to 1-2+kg pike, but i have as well Daiwa Whisker 10-40g,
so basicaly ill use the reel for all those 3 rods, so im looking for any of those Vanfords choses, to suit the rods, specialy the Zodias and SG2
The line im about to use, will be Owner Kizuna X8 135м - Chartreuse 0.6PE.
My main question will be, should i go for 1000F or to go safe and chose 2500HG F?

I would make decision based upon how much line capacity you may need on the reel.
Big waters or larger fast current rivers would be 2500 series,,, smaller waters and slower current is the 1000 series.

Like the rivers here in my country, are not very big like 50-60m from coast to coast, i think on the reel 120-150M should be pretty enough, but i cant really decide should i go for 1000F or 2500F/2500HG F

I measured the spools on the following reels. Most notable is spool diameter at the spool lip and the spool width that gives you the long stroke. For sure the old Stradic FG had the long stroke with the spool width of 14 mm. My most recent Twinpower 1000FD has a 15 mm spool width. Hence it really does have a long stroke.

Shimano spool and handle comparison:
Spool series --- spool width - spool base - spool lip - spool arbor - handle length radius
Stradic 1000FG - 14 mm - 40 mm - 38 mm - 25 mm - handle 50 mm
Stradic 1000FH - 13 mm - 40 mm - 38 mm - 25 mm - handle 50 mm
Stradic 1000FI - 12.5 mm - 40 mm - 40 mm - 25 mm - handle 40 mm
Stradic 1000MgFB - 12.5 mm - 39 mm - 39 mm - 25 mm - handle 40 mm
STCi4+ 1000HGFB - 13 mm - 41 mm - 42 mm - 31 mm - handle 40 mm
Sustain 1000FE - 12.5 mm - 39 mm - 39 mm - 25 mm - handle 40 mm
TwinPower 1000FD - 15 mm - 40 mm - 40 mm - 28 mm - handle 40 mm
Symetre 750FI – 11.5 mm - 40 mm - 36 mm - 25 mm - handle 40 mm
Symetre 500FJ – 9.5 mm - 36 mm - 36 mm - unknown - handle 40 mm

Depends on the line. If you are using thin braid, the 1000 for sure.

Is there a C2000 Vanford offering? So 2000 diameter spool and likely more line capacity with the 1000 sized gearbox for a lighter, more compact overall package.

As others have mentioned, if you are ok with JDM, I strongly suggest a 2000 size. For me, the 2500 frame is just too large for an UL setup. The 1000 frame feels great, and I feel the 2000 size spool with it casts farther/smoother. I've had the current Stradic C2000S since it came out as my primary UL reel and it's wonderful

I purchased a Vanford 1000 then ordered a 2000 series spool from Japan,,,,,, best of both worlds, spool ID for UL lines with the 2000 spool and greater line capacity for heavier lines with the 1000 spool.
