Question about trout spoons

Post by John G » Thu Jan 19, 2023 10:07 am

I bought some 1.4g Rodio Craft trout spoons and they didn't come with split rings. Should I add split rings to them? Thanks

I have the same spoons. I suggest you use the teardrop or oval / egging snaps. I have been especially happy with the Yamashita eggings snaps. Also Owner quick snaps. Or if you feel like paying a premium for a good product: https://japantackle.com/terminaltackle/ ... 00064.html

When I posted this, I forgot that I have these Decoy Egg Snaps.

Yes. Those are good. Perhaps size 1 (30 lb) is a bit big, but if the trout are big too :D

These are great spoons. The hook they are equipped with will give in way before that Decoy snap will. I think if you use about 4 lbs line, you'll be able to bend the hook without breaking the line.

The seatrout I target can get big, so I normally change the hooks to singles from VanFook. With standard trout the hooks are fine and sure does hook them... :D

They'll certainly do just fine with trout.
