BFS rod Loomis 781 CBR
BFS rod Loomis 781 CBR
After a BFS layoff my fever has flared up again recently. Just wondering what the think tank thinks about pairing either an Aldebaran BFS (22) or Kastking Kestral with a G Loomis 781 GLX. The 781 GLX in the split-grip green blank model that came out in 2013 iirc. It’s been paired with my Conquest 50, but I’m starting to wonder if it would be well matched with one of my BFS reels. It’s a quite parabolic rod and the role would include crappies and jumbo perch here in the Mississippi River backwaters. I was considering the 6’ 6” Jenko BFS rod when it occurred to me that I might already have a good one in my 781 CBR. It’s way too cold here in Wisconsin to be trying it out!! Thoughts?

I'm not experienced with any of these products, but Aron made a video of not to buy Kestrel Elite

And yes, I don't know how good or bad it is.

I didn't thought before commenting. Sorry for that. Please keep discussing on that rod, who knows it..

Yeppers IMO all day long. 781 and 841 are both killer and would fish well with light braid and leader...so long as you're not using it for bigger single hook apps and plastics (like some Neds and BFS jigs/plastics), although lighter wire single hooks would be fine (crappie and panfish jigs), and it'll be in the wheelhouse for tiny cranks and anything with open trebles within its spec ratings.

No problem jvelth74.
Dragon, thanks for your thoughts. It confirms what I was thinking.

Those are hard to acquire brother...would be awesome if Daiwa made a 50 sized Ringa SSS or I'ZE Light in true BFS fashion. FWIW, the CQ 50 is a 6.2:1 IIRC, but still only like 23 IPT IIRC due to the small diameter spool. A Conquest 50 Shallow Spool Special would be schuuuweeet as well.

Re: BFS rod Loomis 781 CBR
I’ll put the CQ50 back on a 6” spiral wrapped custom that Matt of Otterrods built for me some years back. It was built on a 2-piece ML St Croix Premier blank. Neither it nor my stock CQ50 are true BFS pieces, but they pair well!dragon1 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 2:57 pmThose are hard to acquire brother...would be awesome if Daiwa made a 50 sized Ringa SSS or I'ZE Light in true BFS fashion. Yeah man, back in the day the Pixy was the BFS and CQ 50 was the mag-finesse, both are legendary. I wish I had never sold my CQ 50.Smalleyez wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 3:13 pmI’ll put the CQ50 back on a 6” spiral wrapped custom that Matt of Otterrods built for me some years back. This was one my first dropshot rods when I was introduced to that method.

Yeah, I can see that working albeit on the very light side of dropshot.Winstondry wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 7:49 amThis was one my first dropshot rods when I was introduced to that method.
